BBK 52MM Throttle Body

I was in the market for an aftermarket throttle body, I was having some issues with my oem unit and have done a lot of mods to support an upgrade. I almost bought a summit 52mm, but after doing a little research, I was not impressed.
I ended up calling BBK and talking to them about their throttle body. They were very helpful and gave me a great deal! I got it for 263.00 shipped. I installed it last week, and thought the throttle felt pretty stiff, but they said it may take time to free up some...It got tigher, and actually became very sticky and would not return to idle! That made for an unpleasant drive home. I sprayed a little WD40 on it after getting home.. and it works much better now! Very nice and smooth actually. I contacted BBK this morning, they said to let me know if I have more issues and they will send me a new one.

So in conclusion, I hope it continues to work properly, and am happy with my purchase for now. I am very pleased with BBKs customer service. Just thought Id share my experience here!

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

UPDATE:

I Continued to have issues with sticking/resistance in the BBK 52mm throttle body.
I had them send me a new unit to replace my faulty unit. I just received it today. It feels much better! I haven't installed it yet, but I'm thinking its going to be a lot better. Hopefully the exchange process goes well too.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

Can you post a picture. I ask because depending on which site you look up the BBK 52mm TB on it looks different. I'd like to see exactly what I'm getting before I order one to replace my pitted, ugly, sloppy old stock unit.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

Hey here's a pic... But I have to say, I'm still need sure about this throttle body. The replacement felt alright at first, just a little stiff, then on a drive last night it won't return to idle!! I used some wd40 I had in the car to free it up, but it's pretty frustrating. I'm not sure I'm going to keep this bbk unit.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

What p/n is that BBK? When I look one up on Summit for my 1991 car it looks different than that. Maybe they are different for a MAP as compared to a MAF car?

If it's not returning to idle properly, maybe just add a secondary return spring from the TB to the cable bracket.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

Part #1534
I think they are different. I ordered directly from bbk, they were having a sale so I got it for 260.

As far as adding a spring goes, I still want an easy throttle feel. And a person shouldn't have to do that with a new throttle body. I'm going to feel it out for a week or so before I decide to keep it or not. It also seems to be a little harder to tune the idle/minimum air on than my factory unit.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

There is a guy on ebay that rebuilds the stock ones. Maybe that's the way to go if these aftermarket ones don't fit the bill. TPIs rebuilds them too, but they charge more for a rebuild that BBK does for a new one.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

My summit is really bad too when the car warms up. Less than 100 miles on it too. Will avoid Summit and BBk in the future. Thanks for letting us know about BBK.

My Arizona Speed & Marine 52mm has provided 20 years of faithful service. But it appears they only sell a 58mm version at this time.

Re: BBK 52MM Throttle Body

I contacted TPIS. They will rebuild throttle the factory throttle bodies for $280.00 plus shipping. And I don't see it listed on their site, but they told me they have a 52mm billet TB for $425.00.
