Ultimate Hose Clamp

I became sick and tiered of always tightening the lower radiator hose clamp on the water pump that I went to a place called "Traction" truck parts and found this.
Its a 2 1/2in max diameter Constant Torque Hose Clamp 5/8in wide.
$ 7.00
They come in many sizes but this is what I needed.
There industrial strength truck and bus hose clamps, with compression rings.
Should do it. Finally.....

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Looks like those stacked "washers" are acting as a spring in order to keep tension on the gear so it won't back off. Is that how it works?

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

That's exactly how it works.
It’s hard to see in-between them but they look like slightly cupped washers facing each other and when you apply pressure the cups press together "compressing”. Five sets stacked together = !!!
It is very well built and is heavy solid stainless steel.
It says = Designed to self adjust to thermal expansion and contraction .

I’m going to install it tomorrow so I let you know what I think.
It does unwind completely so you can slip it on the hose with out removing it.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

I've been getting those from a friend in the local fire department maintenance shop. They use them as hose clamps on the intake hoses on the turbo diesels in the fire trucks. They're a little bulky to use compared to a standard hose clamp.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

They do need some space to be used and I would consider them a "specialty" item.
Perfect for what I need and this spot accommodates it.
So far I've driven the car three times today so the hose has had some time to test it.
Its doing its job so far. I actually might have a system that will pressurize the way it should.
You can see how the rings are compressed now.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Just want to point out you need a new belt, badly. Look at the first photo at the ribs just above the water pump pulley. a couple of them are long gone. The backside of the belt looks fairly worn too. Just a friendly heads up.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Well there's a problem. I've had to tighten it back down twice now and each time I loose a small amount of coolant.
I'm going to give it a little more time then change it out for something different.
Is nothing ever easy ???

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Those t bolt clamps will almost certainly not come loose. They are designed as high pressure clamps for boosted piping (turbo / supercharger)
They are like $3 a piece on eBay for stainless. If you've already had to tighten those other ones, then they aren't going to get any better.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Funny thing is I have tried the T bolt clamps. Ones to large and the other two small.
I was told those were the sizes next to each other but have a better source now and I will see what they say or have to offer.
Very disappointed about the Torque clamp I have now. I don't get it......

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Very odd that you are having problems with those. I just stuck with factory style and bought a pack of every size constant tension clamp to have them available when I need em. The company that makes them is called Rotor Clip and I got mine all off Amazon. These are the factory clamps that look like you need to use a pair of pliers to squeeze open, or the proper tool. Whichever works.

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Could the clamp failure be due to poor design or quality of metal?

Re: Ultimate Hose Clamp

Could be or I over tightened it.
I finally went with a standard style clamp but it is smooth all the way around on the inside of the band. Seems to be holding the fluid at the 1 inch below the top rail .
Time to change the pump.
