Like the title says. What's the loudest, rudest most obnoxious single pipe exhaust I can get? Something that will fit right behind the cat inline with the 3" pipe. I still want the dual pipe but don't want the muffler under the tank. The local council has decided to put in more speed bumps and take lanes away from busy streets to cripple movement. I know where the idiot lives so in addition to lighting up the tires in front of her place, I'd also like to destroy her neighborhood with an incredibly loud car at 3 in the morning. I'm done calling and filling out petitions. Now I just want to be as big an @zzhole as humanly possible.

 

Get a glass pack. Heat it up thru driving it then when hot spray water in it to break up the glass.

 

Install an exhaust cutout. That way you just flip a switch between quiet and obnoxious.

I mean, loudest, most obnoxious is easy, no muffler. It's also less expensive. Win/win!

 

Cutouts are probably the way to go. Personally, I never light up the same rich people neighborhood more than once but there really is no replacement for the satisfaction you get from their angry scowls during the daytime.

 

I totally forgot about boom tubes! Do it nascar style! You may want to purchase some ear plugs also.

 

I had a single 6" black widow neighborhater on my car for one week before taking it off, absolutely unreasonably loud. I couldn't justifiably drive it on the street without feeling like a scumbag lol

I had mine mounted back in the factory muffler area so there wasnt much pipe after it. I never took it on the highway, it was off the car pretty quick

 

Horsepower makes noise, not exhaust design. I have mufflers and cats, but a true dual exhaust behind 600hp is enough to wake the dead.

 

Those cheapo ebay fart can mufflers that kids put on their Honda Civics are pretty annoying.

 

^This is it. No muffler is the loudest "muffler". An expansion or trumpet termination may be a little louder but I can't imagine that you're willing to put in the work for this cause. No muffler is cheap, easy, and louder than any other muffler.

 

Whatever this is on my car. (Just bought it) It is not driveable it’s very obnoxious. 496 stroker, hooker headers into 3”pipes to dual monstrosities on each side. Wanna raise someone from the dead? Wanna make someone dead These could do it.

 

Given your TGO member name, those are probably Hooker big block swap long tube headers for 3rdgens. They dump into 3" collectors and run down each side of the car. Looks like small race bullet mufflers too. Without cats and real mufflers, I'd expect it to be loud.

 

I think you are 100% correct. The guy who built the car passed away so I am constantly trying to figure out what is actually there.

Because whatever aftermarket muffler people put on those will wake you up 5 blocks over...

 

Guys, these LOUD cars like the Hellcat mentioned above: You're absolutely right that they are wicked loud, you can hear them blocks, even a mile away in the right conditions. However, the MUFFLER isn't making the car "loud"....the 700 hp engine is what makes it LOUD....and the mufflers (believe it or not) are actually quieting these cars down. The mufflers that these cars use would likely sound rather benign on your 200 hp car. So sticking "Hellcat", Mustang GT500, Corvette ZR1 mufflers on the OP's <300 hp 3rd gen (after the cat), will, you know...muffle the thing!

The loudest muffler is a "trumpet" exhaust. The next loudest and most practical "loud" muffler is NO muffler at all.

 

Back in my heyday, before "fart cans" came into being, if ya really wanted to **** off the neighbors, this was THE muffler to have.

I realize it's sound would be kinda pale compared to today's "Neighbor killer 2000" mufflers, but way back when these were "Da Bomb"

 

Way back in the early '70s, I ran an auto parts/accessories store; we sold a boatload of these:
Went to Google Images to find that pic; I noticed sellers on ebay asking $100 to $250 for them today. IIRC, my store sold them for less than $20 each. smh....

 

Had these on my '78 formy with the big block pontiac. It had headers, no cats and just these. It was loud but sounded really good from what I remember

 

I put something pretty much just like that in the Kart. They're loud....but not as loud as NO MUFFLERS.

 

That was so long ago that I can't remember how they sounded, but they must have sounded pretty good to sell as well as they did. That was the only non-stock muffler my store carried.

 

Had an SLP Loudmouth system once and D^%$mn it was loud.

 

As others have said, no mufflers is the loudest and cheapest. The best compromise is a cutout. There's a number of things that you can do to amplify that, an exhaust that is cone-shaped or gets larger the closer it gets to the exit or one that dumps under the car (the exhaust will resonate between the floor pan and the street amplifying the noise and even making it so you can feel it through the road surface). I have a fairly quiet exhaust with a cutout mounted under the passenger side seat area, and closed it sounds reasonable, open it goes full racecar.

Another thing of note is that HP=exhaust volume=noise, so the more HP you have ahead of whatever you put on the car the louder it will be.

Finally, be careful with the game you're playing. Areas have been getting exhaust modification laws and even automated noise enforcement which will make all of this illegal. My state, and much of this area has had a 'non stock exhaust configuration law," for a while which would make a lot of what we're discussing illegal, and recently they've been voting on automated enforcement like red light and speed cameras.

My Loudmouth II setup definitely lives to its name...but like mentioned the motor certainly accounts for a large percentage of the volume you get from an exhaust. It wasn't near as loud when it was a "stock" 400 SBC long block with a factory TPI setup.

Also, as mentioned, you are playing with fire. The last thing you want to do is **** off the people directly in charge of passing local ordinances that could make any non-stock exhaust system illegal or fineable. Poking the bear rarely works. Raising public awareness to the actual problem at hand would be a significantly less risky route to take.

 

While not on a 3rd Gen, my son built these 3" pipes with cut outs for his "49 Chevy pickup.
The mufflers are Jones Flow Pack single chambers and it is plenty loud behind his warmed over 307 going through the mufflers.
It is obnoxious with the dumps open.

Now the truck has full tailpipes out the back of the truck as we had to wear ear plugs with it dumping under the bed even going through the mufflers.
That helped a lot.
