Not really an aftermarket question, but it kinda sorta is. Ok heres the skinny, I am making payments on this car to my buddies dad every month, which he is then sending to his lender. For security reasons we want to keep the title in his name until it is payed off, or whomevers name it is in. Now how do I go about getting insurance for this? Will my company give me insurance if the car is in someone elses name. Maybe I can get something notorized? Please help me on this one, no sense in continuing pay if I cant get insurance. I may as well just hand it back

Go ask another insurance company what is required of them to write a policy for you. As far as I know you can insure someone elses car as long as you are the primary driver. But, each state has there own little insurance scam I me an laws about this so.....That what I would do before I start asking my own insurance company stuff like that. They may get suspicious.

I live in PA too. Your insurance company should be able to give you insurance on the car, you'll just need the VIN and your drivers license. However, the car must be insured by the person who it's registered to. And to register it you need the title. So if your buddy's dad carries insurance on it and has it registered you can get insurance for it. You don't want to get pulled over for no registration (it sucks - they made me park the car and walk to a friends house. Didn't even offer a ride. And the fine is like a $150). Hope this helps.
