UMI Performance
I just had some issues with someone Half-assing the install of a 700R4 in my 1982 Camaro. Apparently they removed a 350TH and used the same Crossmember. It would appear that they simply flipped it over and drilled some new holes. as a result, it rubbed the Transmission's Pan and created a hole. It looks like they tried to patch that hole with Silicone. THIS is why my Transmission was leaking so badly. I ordered a new Crossmember and Mount from Summit. The Crossmember was from UMI Performance. I have to say that i'm quite impressed with the quality. The Transmission shop is installing that along with the new mount and a new pan on the Tranny. While they have it apart, they're changing the filter and Oil Obviously. I anticipate a smooth repair. Why don't people just do it right the first time?

Re: UMI Performance
The Operation was a success!! That feels like a totally different car! I don't know why, but it doesn't backfire anymore when i take my foot off the gas. The engine is in rough shape, but i'm getting to it. there's alot to fix.

Re: UMI Performance
I just installed a torque arm relocation crossmember from UMI. Went on w/o a hitch and looks great and i can deffinately feel the chassis a little bit stiffer too. I love thier products and especially now that summit offers them we can get them cheaper because the lack of shipping charges

Re: UMI Performance
I wish i hadn't been in such a hurry. I would have probably purchased one of those kits with the traction bar relocation and the new traction bar. I will probably get it anyhow when the new engine is put in.

We see so many hacked up install jobs it is sad, people get in a hurry or try to do projects with no funds. We have all been in the boat but I have learned if you end up doing it twice it just cost more than doing it right in the first place.
I am glad you are happy with the cross member and we look forward to helping with your future suspension needs.
Thanks again

Re: UMI Performance
I have a 700R4 crossmember as well from UMI installed. Great piece of kit, and felt the difference. I must admit though it took me a little while to get used to the bump noise of the torque arm pulling on the mount instead of the rear of the transmission when I put the pedal to the floor from a stop.

Re: UMI Performance
I rephrased what I said. Its just a tiny bump noise when I tromp it from the mount inside the clamshell. Its a little noise, nothing big.

Re: UMI Performance
At first I thought it might be something loose or broken, but on inspection everything seems intact. Its gonna go in for a swap next week anyway so if there are problems it will show up then.

I love my bilsteins and UMI 3 pt SFC's on my catfish.
I still need a tunnel brace though, the lemming who installed my I-pipe for the PO should be tossed out of an airplane.

Re: UMI Performance
you guys do installs? I'd bring my car to wherever Bigler is. I think another reason people do hack work is cause of lack of reputable shops to do the work. Personally I've called at least a dozen shops and they wont touch my sfc's. LAME. (or maybe I'm just calling the wrong ones haha)
Just let me know. Thanks!

Re: UMI Performance
i'm a big fan of UMI's products and that's why i'm so disappointed that they don't have a 4L80E crossmember in their product line yet.
i saw their booth at the Ohio Summit Racing supercruise and the Carlisle GM Nationals. talked to the guys at both events about this product and they basically said their main focus right now is on the new Camaros. bummer.
