Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

So I finally ordered my catback (flowmaster 17233) and decided to order it from Summit racing for a change. I was going to grab it from amazon for there 2 day prime shipping, but realized i was going to get ca tax (an extra $34.54 on the catback price of $428.28) so i decided to order from Summit. I believe its some type of law if the company has a warehouse in the state you get taxed. Any who, In the past i have ordered from jegs and there shipping was pretty decent (about 4-5 business days) but for some reason i went with Summit. I ordered it on friday night (5-16) at about 11pm pacific. Got a shipping confirmation on sunday(!) 5-18 that it shipped out from nevada. I got it this morning at 11am!!!!! The item weight was 58 pounds and still came in half of a business day!!! im not sure why i have never ordered from them in the past but they have my business now!!!!!!!

Now hawks third gen on the other hand....... ordered my air dam last tuesday 5/13 and it should deliver on wednesday 5/21

UPDATE: Ordered my Magnaflow Cat from them on saturday 5/31 at 3pm pacific, received it once again on monday 6/2 at 11am!!!! Summit racing is great!

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I totally agree.
Summit Racing also got my business when I bought my Flowmaster American Thunder CAT back.

I have ordered a lot from them over the years.
A great company to deal with.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I've ordered from Jeg's before, something like 12 years ago, never really had anything bad to say about them at the time. I was ordering from Summit at the same time, but for the last 10 years I've pretty much only ordered from Summit. I think I've picked up a few things from Founders and BMR directly, but everything else has come from Summit. Just the other day, I ordered a trans cooler, AN lines and fittings. The cooler I selected was on back order, and they gladly changed my order to one that was in stock. Not only that but looked my phone number up so that I didn't need to give them my address or any of the information, they just said 'You'll have it in a few days." Too bad everyone doesn't do business that way.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

In defense of Hawks, for crying out loud, they are in South Carolina, they could hardly be any further from you in CA and stay on the continent. Normal shipping time from NC to CA would be at least 4-5, maybe 6 business days. So to complain that you ordered something on the 13th and received it on the 21st, let us take a gander on the reality of this.
1) there has to be a weekend between those two dates. No matter how you shake it, UPS and Fed-Ex do not move anything on the weekend except for deliveries, and that is if you pay the extra money to have it delivered on a Saturday.
2) It took them a whole day to process your order and ship it out the next day + 5 business days travel time. Sounds to me like Both Summit and Hawks have the same turn around time, it is just that you are a long way away from Hawks.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

Location, location, location. I have gotten a few orders from Jegs in less than 24 hours. They're about 3 hours drive time from my place. Always free shipping except oversize packages. Summit is about the same difference, but never shipped as fast.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

Yeah summit is great I built a whole engine and tranny from them I'm in az so it only took two days max to get my orders. Very good customer service also they had the wrong oil pan listed for my car I. I got it all together and in my car and my exhaust wouldn't fit. I called summit up and they over night delivered a more expensive pan at no charge at all. Always order from summit if you can

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I have made orders before 9am and have had them at my house later that day. They do amazing work with their shipping. Since I'm usually spending more than $100 at any time, it's always free shipping. They handle returns quickly, as well as one time I had my package tampered with, re-taped. I was missing one part. Summit walked me through their diagnosis of the box and such and found it was tampered with. Sent the part that day, had it the next morning. Love.

I had another instance with a backordered part. I called THE COMPANY that makes the part, they told me 2weeks backorder. So I saw that Summit had it but it would be backordered as well. Thinking Summit would have an upper hand on backorder parts vs a single customer, I bought it. Roughly 1 week later, it was at my door. The company was called back and I was then told 1 week backorder. So...Summit rocks.

And don't get me started on their Scratch and Dent sales either. Literally little scratches or minor dents in products and they cut the price a lot.

About 45min drive for me.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

If I need it fast, I order from Summit, provided they can ship it from their Reno warehouse.

Otherwise, I order from Jegs. Free shipping tips the scale in their favor.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I found that a few places that I had price matched with Summit, ended up raising their price to over what Summit charged after the purchase was made, even though they originaly had it lower. I think Summit has persuasion in area's I never thought lol. Truly. BanditExhaust had my #16829 kit for $300 some, Summit for over $400. Now if you look on bandit, it's the same as Summit. sitting around $535.

maybe you didnt read my post thoroughly, I got shipping confirmation on sunday! 5-18 at about 3am. Obviously THEY DO move things on the weekends.I'll still give summit the upper hand. The only reason i ordered from hawks is because they are the only one with the air dam!!!

Summit Definitely has my business here after!

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

Being in Canada, Summit is amazing. I usually order on a Sunday and the parts are here by Thursday/Friday. 4-5 day shipping from the USA to my door in Canada is faster than the local parts store can get it. I always order more than $99 worth of parts but have to pay shipping charges. But in those charges are taxes and duty so when the parts show up at my door there are no extra expenses.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I have ordered a few things from Summit. I have got good things and bad things. Yes, their shipping is fast, but...

1. They state a piece is made for your car even though you may see 15 completely different parts, so you still have to know exactly what you want, not what they say will fit.

2. Don't ever order a hood from them. I ordered a hood, they called me and said it was at my house and I was at work. They said "We will leave it here", I was like "ok, cuz it will take me 30 mins to get there" then I get home and take it out of the crate, the hood looks like someone walked all over it. Litterally like there are foot dents on it.

I call to complain and they tell me since I accepted drop off without approval (in person) I accepted ALL responsibility and have to eat the $500 hood. Now, I threw a pretty big fit and went up the ladder and after 10 mins they finally agreed to ship me another hood and just told me to throw the one I had away. They also informed me they would never 'give me a break' again.

I have the 2nd hood sent directly to the body shop so they can verify. Body guy states it is bent up but doable. It took him an entire day to hammer/twist/putty to get it to look right and ended up probably costing me another $300 in labor. I will never buy stuff like that from them again.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

LOL I had Summit ship six different hoods for the same problem. One was Literally folded in half, I sheet you not. It really isn't their fault, they package them pretty well. Lazy parcel carriers just throwing them around. The same guy delivered most of them and we became quite well acquainted. Needless to say, I nixed that whole idea, and had a member drive one to me from N.E. Pa.

Summit vs. Jegs

Summit catalogs are easier to read (Jegs catalogs have improved though, while Summit catalogs have gotten worse [fewer products])
Summit web site is easier to navigate
Jegs sales reps are WAY more knowledgeable
both are pretty good about returns I think

If it weren't for the fact that my input shaft is on back order I would be fairly irritated as it would be holding up my build.

You had to go through SIX hoods?! DAMN Who was the carrier? They sure didn't care about it.

For the record: It takes summit 2-3 days to get me my ordered items to Texas. I have never had a problem with them after 12 years of use and 200+ orders!

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

Six just from Summit. They used UPS and FedEx, no difference in the results. UPS was the one that folded the one hood. Like I said before Summit is about 200 miles from me in the Ohio location. I bought one from a seller on ebay, used some no name carrier that showed up in some beat to hell van and produced a beat to hell hood. I bought one from Thiredgencustoms, he used UPS, damaged and another disappointment in it's own right. So in all honesty I went through 9 to get a hood that I would be able to use without doubling the cost to have it repaired.

Yea I think mine was UPS, but it's been a few months. It was crate shipped, not your normal UPS truck. The UPS driver I have is a great guy, being I get car parts every other week he asks to see it from time to time. Been my UPS delivery guy for 10 years.

The company shipping isn't the issue, it's the person handling it and their attitude that day.

I'm in NY and Hawks takes over a week to ship to me. Summit had my clutch slave in 2-3 days last summer if I recall correctly.

I'm also a big fan of 1AAuto.

Just had an order sent in for my Stock Brakes - Overhaul Help thread on Wednesday after 930P.M. I had it at work at 11:30A.M Thursday. 2 boxes worth. Summit just keeps up the good work.

Their techs however seem to be slipping lately. I've had them verify a few parts for me, "what's in the box" sort of thing, and twice now they were wrong. Almost like they just go by what the picture shows rather than getting the part and seeing what's actually in the box.

I would suspect the phone techs are nowhere near the warehouse, so they are unable to physically lay their hands on your part.

Doesn't explain why they say, wait, let me go check that for you. I just dislike if that is how it's done, that the tech's don't know what's in the box, or can't check, but will tell you like they know. So I buy caps, then receive them with the parts that I was told didn't come with. Grr lol.

Received my flexplate cover yesterday. 2 week wait for backorder wasn't too bad. Still had 1 day shipping.

When I was looking to order my Dart block from JEGS and I read about Summit's beat the competitor's price guarantee...they only offered to beat JEGS price by only 1 measly buck!!

On an order of over 2K.....JEGS got my order needless to say....

Summit does deliver super fast, and have great prices overall, but they dropped the ball on that one...

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

Both Summit and Jegs are very good about returns. Typically, i find that Summit sells the same products for a couple bucks cheaper. And as i've said, their website is alot more intuitive. On the other hand, Jegs sells more products, and continues to sell items long after Summit discontinues them.

When my L98 build was winding down, i ordered a Hypertech coil, cap, and rotor from Summit. Hypertech is definitely not my 'go-to' brand, but it was the only one that met my brass (not aluminum) terminals, and black (not red) housing criteria. Out of the box, the graphite-ish contact was broken off. I called Summit, and before i could say, "No, what you NEED to do is get this replaced TOMORROW and have the FedEx guy take this broken one" he was like "why dont we go ahead and get you out a new one in the morning and you can just give the FedEx guy your old one."

More recently, the SSBC 1LE Kit i ordered from SSBC via Jegs failed to meet acceptable standards on a few different fronts and it has taken almost a year to determine all the facts. Jegs has agreed to refund my money on the Kit, which has been installed and on the vehicle for the better part of a year. I could see a lot of vendors having a 'policy' of "you should have known somehow that the part was not going to work properly before you put it on your car."

Wait, explain this again.

How I'm reading this.

Jegs Dart Block = $2,000
Summit Drt Blk = $2,000
Beat A Price = $1,999

So they beat it by $1.

...or was it more like...

Jegs = $2,000
Summit = $2,500+
Beat A Price = $1,999

Just curious how much they dropped from "their" original price.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

I order just about everything from Jegs because I can get a military discount from them. Varies by part and manufacturer but can be anywhere from 10-30%. Of course you have to ask for it.

Summit does give a racer discount. It's a process getting it though...

Since when does Jegs have a Military Discount? I may have to switch from Summit.

Call them and ask about it. They will explain how you can get the discount.

I'll look into it, from them and Summit. I'm about to place a huge order once I get settled and everything.

Sounds to me like Both Summit and Hawks have the same turn around time, it is just that you are a long way away from Hawks.

exactly, my lucky break is easly SC is only a 4 hr drive from Knoxville! so if I need to I just drive on down and get my parts, others aren't so lucky.

Re: Summit Racing Shipping; OH MY GOD!

ordered Hotckis 1" drop springs (rear) new Monza exhaust tips for the Formula the other day [from Summit]. they shipped from separate warehouses (Ohio & Nevada). one was supposed to take 2-3 business days, the other 3-4 business days. both arrived at the same time in 2 business days to western Washington state. pretty impressive.

I ordered a dop base openair cleaner from SUMMIT last wk solid black with no logo which fit my TBI engine perfectly and had it on my porch in two days. I plan to order some headers from them soon if i get the nerve to tackle that project again.
