Is she totalled?
I made it all but 45 minutes home yesterday (after a 10 hour drive) and a guy pulled across the highway in a truck and trailer. T-boned him doing about 50. If you want more info, I'll give it. But what do you guys think? I know a few of you have been there....unfortunately.

That suuucks, I'm incredibly sorry to hear about that....
That looks like a pretty good smack. But, you'd really need to open your hood, or pop a fender off or snap a pic from underneath for us to give you a good idea.

the drivers' side is mashed pretty good...but still opens
the passenger side is like I never was in a wreck.
and I'm fine guys. I came out of this with ZERO scratches on me. I have G0D and 4th gen seatbelts to thank for that. Guess we know the 4th gen belts work great now
edit: and why must I be forced to spell the name of my preferred deity with a zero and not the real word?

Wow that sucks, I'm glad your alright though! I almost cried when I saw those pics... that looks like a really nice clean GTA man. My father used to appraise wrecked cars for an insurance company back in the 80's... he tought me a lot... so by looking at it I would say that it's totalled... sorry man.
But hey, if you can keep the car it would make a good rainy day project! (Ok, maybe a few more rainy days than just one)

It looks like the front bumper support (where the frame meets the bumper piece) will be bent to all hell.
Any under body shots? It's hard to tell without seeing the frame itself.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, that was an awesome car.
Any word on whos fault it will be? If they total it, take the money and buy the car back. My dad has fixed harder hits than that. I would be wary of the a pillars and how bad the doors close.
Keep us posted.

Im sorry to hear about your car mand. Im glad your ok. I think the insurance company may total it mainly because of its age and lets face it our cars are worth alot to us but to them they arent worth much. I hope everything goes well for you.

G0D that's awful Do you have any frame pics??? I'd imagine there maybe some radiator support and surrounding frame damage, you might be lucky and the bumper absorber did its job.

thanks guys. kind words help in times like these.
I'm afraid to open the hood...but from what I've seen the radiator core support is completely smashed. But I will say this: the geometry of the wheels still looks good. The car still fires up and purs like she should, and if it wasn't for the power stearing being out....probably could have driven it right up on the trailer instead of having to turn the trailer to fit it.
I'm not sure what to think anymore as to if I think it should be totalled. I love the car....but don't it fixed if it will never be the same. I've put so many hours into the car.....it's scary just thinking about getting into another thirdgen.
Sonar - you just wait man. If you thought this bird was nice....and I get what I want from the insurance.....wait until you see the next one. I'm not gone from the thirdgen scene just yet fellas. When I leave it's when you pry the keys from my cold dead fingers. You guys have a nice day, and thanks for the kind words. You have no idea the difference it makes.

Having just gone through this whole process on another car of mine, insurance will all but certainly total out something like that. Just from what it looks like on the outside, I would think it would be a fixer, but you will have to determine that when you get in there. Check the frame/suspension/shock towers/door pillars/etc. and if those all look okay then I would just buy it back and fix it. I am smack in the middle of doing the same thing, I know this really stinks. I would not know what to do with myself if it was the camaro though.

with our car having such low book values, it doesn't take much for insurance to total them. i would say your car is definately totalled for insurance purposes. it is possible that the damage is fixable, but that can't be seen just from the pics. i would definately buy the car back from insurance and part it out though.

Just for a reference this is $2850 in damage according to State Farm...it damn near totalled my car(another $500 more and it would have been) and I barely clipped the deer. Mine was a no brainer to fix it, the deer took out the hood, radiator trim but not the support, headlight pannel, cracked the front bumper in a few places, and then bounced back and put a few dents in the pass fender and door with its feet(I was sliding sideways trying to stop). It really didn't look bad, but parts and labor add up fast.
Yours will be totalled for sure unfortunatly...sorry.

dude don't throw the towel in on her just yet.....
take the total payout and fix her up......
as long as the frame is ok, then you can buy everything you need from junkyards and fix it to where you can't even tell it's wrecked....... don't let the insurance company have it and sell it to someone for pennies on the dollar........ hell if the insurance company takes then yell at me and i'll get it off them and fix it up.....
you can do it dude.......
sorry to hear about what happend and i hope that ya can get it fixed the way ya want.....

Car: too many ...
It will never be the same, thats for sure. I'm sure some will disagree but I dont think its possible to get the frame back to perfect after an accident. It will always have some kind of problem, some panel wont line up perfect, or some squeak somewhere. But I think its definately fixable. Like everyone said, it will depend on how bad the frame is bent. Insurance companies will declare a car totalled pretty fast these days. Revlimit got in a wreck and they declared his car totalled. He bought it back and replaced the steering linkage and some body panels and he still races it to this day. Dont think he had any frame damage (he got t-boned). Dont loose hope. It can be fixed. As for the appearance, looks like you'll need a new drivers door, new fenders, new hood, and new front lip. At least the rear 1/4 panels werent damaged because those are a PITA to fix. I say hope they declare it totalled, pay you back, buy it back from them for a few hundred, use the payout money to buy another clean 3rd gen for your daily driver, xfer all your mods to the new 3rd gen daily driver, then rebuild this 3rd gen yourself on your free time as a race only project. Thats what I'd do!!

i've been there before man... a lady hit my car (front left fender) at about 60 miles per hour (her speed) while i was at a full stop. i didn't have insure on the car at the time so i was stuck with fixing it all up on my own, with my father's help and some neighbors we managed to get the frame back in place, it's tough! used a torch, pullies, this and that. i can show ya some pictures if you want, it was a mess, i had to buy a whole new front, both fenders, lights, bumper, hood, radiator, hoses, and some other misc parts. it took about two weeks and still at the end a couple of things werent quite right, fortunatelly enough i am pretty good when it comes to using a dremel, so i went ahead and cut some here and there and now it looks like new. sorry to hear about your accident bro, it might be able to be fixed, i dunno, hard to tell, best of luck to you.

man i feel sorry for you. Another flame red met GTA bites the dust. Insurance will say its totalled. After 2 months i got my payout, i kept the car and they only gave me 200 less than if i had let them take it. Don't let the insurance company take it, its not worth it. You can part it out or buy a trashed out 82 and swap all of your stuff in.
once again, i'm sorry
Dave

I'd hold onto it and find something with a good body and just try to piece stuff together. You hit that trailer real good, Sucks to happen to such a nice thirdgen. At least you don't look like your car does.

**** !!! At least you are ok! If it was mine, I would get the insurance dough, buy the car from them cheap, now I would have a great oportunity.
1st - now it would be time for that tubular k-member and complete fiberglass front clip with glass hood of your choice.
2nd - get a straight door from boneyard
3rd - straight to the paint shop
4th - any left over insurance dough for MORE mods!
Now you have a lighter and faster GTA!!!!!!!!!!
I know a Damn good body shop that could fix that without anyone being able to suspect that the car was hurt.
Let me know if you need their number.

wow man... that sux i'm sorry to hear about that, glad to hear your ok. that gives me shudders just looking at it, i dont know what i would do if i saw my car like that, that just makes me sick to my stomach to see any car let alone what mine would make me do. i agree dont throw the towel on her yet, let them total it and see what it's gonna cost to fix it and it will most likely(crossed fingers) be less, and u can fix it and make it better than before. but most important is your ok and your right the 0 in g0d should not have to be there but i guess they try to be politically correct so what are you gonna do.
