Hawks/Redraif Notchback Announcement!

The mold is just getting final touches, so we should have some finished notches very soon. If you didn't get in on the original list for the GP, you still can. If you have talked to Hawks in the past and given them a credit card number (one of the original 10), please contact him to work out payment and hsipping details. You can call Bruce at 864-855-2694. Thanks everybody! Hopefully we'll have some pictures of a new finished notch very soon.

Does anyone know if he wants to do another run of these at some point in the future? I know he has another notchback available, how much of a difference is there in the two? I just don't have the money, or the storage space for a notchback right now, but I'd like to have at least one.

I thought it was almost finished? Why not go ahead and finish the mold...everyone is getting impatient, and you'll have a lot better chance of selling them if they can be delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm always cautious with credit cards, too, but Bruce owns a successful business with a very good reputation, and he's as honest as they come. I've known him personally for about 4 years now, since he was still part of Third Gen Resource. Besides, I know where he lives !

Just a though, sell them on ebay and say that they will have them in 3 weeks, or however long it would take. That way you get the full amount upfront and with people paying $1100 for these things, you would probably sell a few at $500. I really hope they get made because if they do I will probably/hopefully buy one this summer.

Bruce has the mold finished now, and just has a few minor details to take care of. He hopes to be shipping the first notches after Christmas. I'll post pics later of the first one out of the mold. Right now, the plan is to offer it with a lexan/plexi rear window with an installation kit (a rubber weatherstrip and adhesive), or with no rear window for those who want to have a glass window installed. If anyone wants to order one, give Bruce a call at 864-855-2694. Thanks!

Theres two different notches? I only ever saw the pic of one and didnt really like it. I am a huge fan of the factory style notch though and would seriously consider buying one. Lets see some pics and if anyone can update if there is a second notch? i dont believe there is though.

There are two notches...the one pictured on Hawk's website is the old GT Auto one that IMHO is extremely ugly. The other notch is one that Redraif bought on Ebay (manufacturer unknown), and sent to Hawk's to have reproduced. It looks a lot like the factory notch, but not exactly...this notch uses the original hinge hardware from the hatch, and has the carriage bolt heads sticking through just like they do on the standard hatch. The GM notch doesn't have this, its smooth here. Also, there is no ridge in the center, making it easier to fit other spoilers. I mocked up an Aerowing on this notch, and it fit well, something you can't do with an original. Just about any third gen spoiler will fit on this notch. Redraif's notch has a removable plexiglass back window, but the production ones will likely have a plexi or lexan window, weatherstrip, and adhesive to permanently mount the window. It will also be sold with no rear window for those who want to use regular safety glass, or make their own removable window. Here are some pics of it:

Yes, I'm serious. The factory seal sucks and I'm hoping the one Hawks has will work better. Is the window opening the same dimensions as the stock notch?

I don't think its exact, but its very close. The weatherstrip is moldable, its not molded to fit this specific opening, so if you gave him accurate measurements he could probably supply some.

Got a call from Bruce tonight verifying my credit card and address. He said he was going to try to get it out within the next five to seven days. Just in time for me to be gone on vacation.

Dammit.

Yeah he called me this morning and woke me up. Not his fault though, no class today and I got a huge time difference. I really wish I had the rest of the money (I just gave the $100 deposit) so I could have a fancy new notch before the new year. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't expecting to get so many tickets since summer.... Still can't wait to see how they fit!

Laters.

Hmm. Maybe ill drive to SC and see how one looks on the formula.

thatd take care of the formy people wondering what it looked like.

(and i'd probably end up buying one before i left. heh.)

after all, its only 7 hours or so. piece of cake.

Interesting....a notchback makes your cars
look like a convertible car with the top. I never did like the hatch-back glass and always prefered the 'trunk' look.

But for some reason, the notchback effect on non convertible cars does not look too right. The roof lines do not seem to flow evenly and the back window is squashed...looks strange to me.

But in anycase..goof luck with them.
