Need help deciding Gunmetal Grey or Black?
I'm stuck. Gunmetal looks so sweet on any IROC, but black just looks so clean and steathy. People i have talked to all say black is too hard to keep looking clean and good. How's gunmetal grey in comparison to that? Would grey be easier to keep looking good? I was also thinking something even darker grey than gunmetal (?). Anyone got any pics of the two to help point me in the right direction? thanks for any help and/or opinions!!!

Well I was a detailer for several years so let me shed some light onto this. A gunmetal grey color similar to the Jeep Grand Cherokee or Chrysler colors I am assuming you are talking about. Personally these colors hide being dirty well, don't show swirl marks in sunlight as badly, or need to be meticulously cared for like black.
That being said black is by far the sexiest color I believe. Unfortunately swirl marks show up rather easily in them and paint chips show up as a white chip, whereas a grey would hide it better. Black can be buffed out several times to reveal smooth paint again, but must be kept clean to look good. Over time black will pick up dirt, grime, etc just like all paint jobs will, but they are tougher to care for as compared to grey. Personally, I love black vehicles and all my vehicles are that color and I wouldn't change it. But it will require more care, although if you're that kind of person already I don't see it being a problem.
The grey looks great as well, but nothing shines like a deep dark black. I am especially fond of the black that you see on the new mercedes cars that just came out. Looks rich, dark, and deep. Nothing could beat it.
If you have some more questions let me know. One more thought, black is one of the hardest colors to paint match overtime due to slight paint fade due to sunlight, road grime, etc. Although a competent body shop should get it right on the money, but under certain light conditions you may be able to notice old paint from new paint.

I have the gunmetal myself and I'd definitely recommend it over black.
I would have to disagree with xpndbl3 though. While I'm sure it isn't as bad as black, I find that it shows dirt and swirl marks terribly. Probably more due to personal pickyness than actual fact- but it feels like my car never looks good because of those two things.
Here's a crappy pic (sorry I don't have a clean one of her in sunlight)..

Hey I'd say go with the gunmetal, that's what I have and I LOVE it! It's the cleanest looking color on a car you can get, in my opinion.
And Dark Man C's and that last Iroc you posted both look awesome do they not?
I can't wait to repaint mine!!!!

Hey hovrbird.... In that video in your sig, the camera's in the RX-7 right? I kinda figured you wouldn't post you yourself losing but it's hard to tell with the quality and all.
And so is that a twin or just single turboed *****? I'm just trying to figure out how many ricers I'll be able to dust when I put in my new 355 and lower geared rear end
(but I do have an auto so this will hinder me some )

Ugh, those stripes look tacky. That and the bling bling wheels need to go!
Other than that, nice ride.

I am highly in favor of gunmetal grey. Black would have to be very shiney and reflective for me to like it. Black looks bad when its dirty where as gunmetal grey looks good almost all the time.
Ever considered a compromise between the two colors: say a dark gunmetal grey or graphite?

gunmetal grey is cool but black is way better but on the other hand gunmetal is cheaper to paint and easier to maintain although iwould paint the car black and take care of the paint o-wait that is what i am doing

BTW, I would go with gunmetal as well, providing it goes okay with the original color of the car.

Not to hijack the guy's thread, but yes it's the rx7 filming. I'm working on getting some better quality, longer clips. It's a single turbo, but not the stock one, he dropped in a bigger turbo along with a new engine. Had a whole post about it, link below.
Also, having an auto doesn't necessarily hinder you. I have a shift kit, decent suspension, drag radials and left the guy off the line rapidly as you can see. It's all about traction.
