Mine is being painted the same color as the car right now! I think it looks best!

Interior should be completed here soon. New role bar, Sparco racing leather seats,Harnesses, rear seats recovered to match, and new carpet! Should be sweeet!

Polished. A polished cage against a dark-colored interior always looks great.

Hmmm... roll cage.. What is it that you're building? Hehe I guess we'll have to wait and see...

well my roll bar in the z was painted graphite with black/graphite interior and it was a subtle interior piece. this time i'm not sure if i want it to be painted to match to somewhat standout or if i want it to blend in and hide which is nice with the smaller chromoly. polished would go well too.... but that just definately might be too much.

just getting some ideas.

interior color they look odd when painted bright colors that stand out to much and look... well out of place its better when its the interior color and is used as almost a subtle accent

Something about a painted roll-cage that just screams "tacky!" unless done perfectly right. And I've never seen one like that, in my opinion.

If I was doing a dark interior, a polished roll cage and a few other polished-color accents would look great, imho.

See Jeff-I think that car (69 Camaro) would look goofy with anything but that color roll cage...There is one done up right!

IMO~I think a dark interior witha dark roll bar is too DARK and too much dark going on. too dark...

Pollished would be ok as a 1st choice on a blk interior...

Lighter color-Blk or Painted to match car unless your car is PINK or some WILD color.lol...

It all depends. The last one looked good Jeff. If It was The color of the car it would stand out to much and take away from everything else. It would scream LOOK AT ME!!!

That 1stGen is done right. Its a Gutted RACE CAR. sheet metal Int.The Cage painted to match car looks good.

Polished would look to much like Chrome and 80's style.

I say make it match the in.

I agree w/ TPl383 all the way. I say paint it to blend w/ the interior. You don't want it to be in your face look at me, it takes to much from the rest of the car.

we know its gonna be spectacular so there are obviously a ton of factors here. 8 pt cage? 12 pt? 6 pt? any other chrome on the car especially in the interior? and any ideas yet what the body color is going to be?

im leaning towards polished but that can change after you answer some questions

compared to polished aluminum as reference? no it honestly looks like other tubular metals, just lighter and in this case smaller dia.

the body color will be a solid color for the most part and will be a form of candy. the interior will be a mix of the body color, graphite and brushed aluminum (no chrome or polished pieces).

well a kandy cage would look nice with some interior pieces body colored as well, depending on how much of the interior is body colored. how big will it be again? if you are going with chrome wheels (which i assume you are) a chrome cage might look nice but it might also clash slightly with the brushed alumnium. IMO the graphite is just too plain for a car of that caliber. it would look okay but i think the body colored cage would just look better as long as the interior wouldnt be overdone in body colors afterwards. and with the brushed alumnium

yeah the one in my 91 was grey metallic. looked nice but boring too... just not sure if i want to push the cage by body color as in the end it gets a few scratches no matter what you do.

subtle is always nice..

For your poll you forgot to put "Or no cage at all." C'mon, a roll cage in a car is only cool if it were actually needed. Maybe if the car spent most of its days at the track rather than going back and forth to work or shows. Having a cage in a daily driver is like having a rear spoiler on a Neon, NOT NEEDED. Just my 2 cents.

and your entitled to it...

my car was twisting at the roof and causing cracks in the paint and seams. put the cage in, fixed the area and added more power and haven't looked back.

i agree that a cage is a necessity. I know sfc's would help me a lot and theyre going in this summer however even with my lightly modded 350 i have more then enough chassis flex to cause serious cracks by the corners of the window.

Well, when you and I both get t-boned by a lady doing 60 and you die and I walk away, then I guess you would see how "needed" it is. Its not just a visual thing, like many kids believe it to be, it's a rigidity/safety item that could and is designed to save your life on and off of the track.

Kandied91z, I chose gloss black to match my wheels and the tint. Not too many people liked it when I had it silver.

I did mine in silver hammertone in a midnight sand-grey metallic car with charcoal interior and silver aero effects and silver 5-point Teamtech harnesses. See what you think. Now it's got yellow crash padding on it which I may extend into some race seats, as well as the paint scheme of the new engine.

p.s. Kandied91, Teamtech is right there on Bay Road in Saginaw and he'll custom-stitch you two very fine harnesses. Tell Curt Tucker I sent you in and he will probably sell them to you at jobber price.

Ever seen crash video... you would be suprised how far a human body will stretch in a crash. This leads me to point #2.

Ever wonder why it is requered to pass a multiple roll bar inpact test, before a helmet will receive its Snell aproval?

Chances are good, that the very cage you put in for saftey, can also cause very serious damage in a wreck, without the rest of the proper saftey equipment, there is a reason that at the race track, by the time you are requered to have a full cage with a halo, you also need to wear a helmet and harness.

I'm not trying to scare anyone here, but all a cage is just part of a saftey package, and infact creates dangers that were not present before, unless it is used with the rest of the equipment. But, at the same time, in a highspeed side inpact, the side-bars may very well prove to save your life, but they could also cause serious damage in a lowspeed rear-ending.

Just something to think about.

Back on topic. If there is a good contrast between the interior color, and body color, then I say body color. If the colors don't really jive next to each other, then either something classy, like gloss black, or matched to the interior. IMHO.

that red convertible makes me say that Polished would be awesome if it is able to mesh well with the rest of what you have planned. There are too many variables about the interior and exterior that are still unknown or classified to be sure what would look best. PS- I LOVE that spoiler on the blue 4th gen Camaro posted earlier. I think RK Sport is the company that sells it.

If you want to say you have a cage in your car for safety measures then I would suspect that you have put one in every car that you own. I understand they are for safety at the track and strength against body flex, but really, on a daily basis are you pulling your tires off the ground at every light your at? I'm just saying, for normal everyday use they are not needed. If I had a 400+ HP car that I took to the track often then yes I would have one. But most cars on this site are daily drivers or something to take to shows.

As a matter of fact I do

And yes, they can cause injury if the other components are not there. But, I wear my harnesses and if I die, well, too bad I guess.

I have to agree about the safety end of it as well...I'm guilty of having a street car with a roll bar in it bolt n as well! Its something to think about!

When in an accident weird things happen inside the car. Depending on how you were hit the roll bar could work against you and cause death, head or bodily injury when not used with the other components in a race car head and neck restraints, helmet, and fire protection.

In a rear collision what if the roll bar twisted forward and clobbered you? Its not a complete frame like a race car, cup car, or what ever. I guarentee these things would move in a serious impact.

In the event of a side impact (the worst) a roll cage or side bar isnt going to help much anyway? Think about your applications I have seen? Most of the bars are so low even at arm leangth its isnt going to do much good? The vehicle would drive right through.

A real full role cage didn't save the side impact of the ARCA driver that was killed at LOWES a few years ago's life? In addition, most of the people in here with roll bars & cages do not even have a airbag.

There is a lot of what if's and this is a ongoing discussion. I guess just be careful and use good judgement as you can't always avoid fate anyway.
