Did I ruin the look of my 91z28

Here is a pic of what my car looks like now. The car in the sig is what it use to look like. I got a bigger hood and different wheels. My car is not finished in the 1st pic. I still have to paint the headlight pockets black, install the foglight and turn signals and retint the windows. I am asking because I dont think the hood matches the rest wheels and body lines of the car. This is going to be street driven car. As of now, I have plans to put a stock 91-92 z28 hood back on it. As for the wheels, I dont know. I like these but then I dont when I see other wheels. Tell me what you guys think.

Looks Killer if it had the older hood. That bigger hood dosen't flow with the car like the old hood. The black wheels is a really nice touch. I say the old hood or an SS hood.

Really nice thought

I wish I had my old hood back but I sold it. I really like the look of the SS hood but its another $500 to spend on a 3rd hood in 2 years just becuz I can make up my mind, I may pull this hood off and throw some paint on the stock hood for now. The thing with the cowl hood is that I have 3 gauges mounted under the cowl that I NEED. fuel pressure and my oil pressure gauge are under there now. I guess I will have to find a new home for those gauges now.

Do you have any better pictures of the car, like from the side, interior, motor, ect.? I can not tell what wheels they are. ZR1s? I would have to agree with the smaller hood. I never liked the looks of large cowls on our cars, or any car for that matter. But hey, its my opinion. Did you ever put in the Autometer guages in the stock dash location? You could always mount the three gauges in a triple A-Pilar pod. Car looks pretty good though from the pic you gave us.

My take:

Now the car looks less sportscar-like, but more musclecar-like. Tha hood, coupled with the black rims and light pockets will make it look tougher, with the less-refined look of a factory special. If I saw both at the same time I would look at the old version as a show car, the new version as one I'd avoid at a streetlight. Then again, opinions are free advice and usually worth the asking price. In the end it comes down to what YOU like, although I understand the desire to ask for opinions.

here is the pics of the wheels. they are American Racing Le Mans wheels. They where a liminted production wheel a few years ago. i bought them off John Lablanc(owner of MBA products). He had them on his 4th gen z28 which was featured in GMHTP with these wheels on it. if the pics dont load then click the link

I think those new wheels are awesome. I've never been a fan of the huge cowl hoods, but if you like it then keep rockn it.

I like the wheels too and I think they will look better when I add more black to the car by tinting the windows. I have NOT seen another 3rd or 4th gen with these wheels so I would like to keep them just for that fact

Are those Ronal R9s?

I bought a set (R9s) that will be painted similarly: Black if I keep the car a solid color, or the darker of a potential two-tone combo. To me, yours looks perfect with those and the cowl.

I say get an SS hood and put a dark grey metallic stripe like this one on the hood. I have the Cervini 3in cowl and love it but I kinda wish I had an SS hood.........but your gonna get some serious looks with either one. Both hoods just have that clean factory look to em.

My only problem with the bigger hoods are that they go from nothing to something very quick there is no smooth transaction from 0in to 4in.......just dosen't have that flow.

Either way you look at it you have a very nice car that will stand out in a parking lot full of cars........and thats what we all want right

lose the rims, change the hood. Never put black rims on a car, it will always look worse than polished or chrome, IMHO. and that big of a hood doesn't look good on anything. Why did you change it all in the first place?

i like wheels, they look out of place now, but once you get the headlight buckest blacked out, it will accent the wheels and they will look really good.
as for the hood, i think pretty much everyone else covered it, it looks out of place. a hood that big should only go on a car when neccessary (and needing a hood that big is usually a good thing ) so i say either go with your old hood, or like somone suggested an SS hood, but instead of the SS with a dark gray stripe, go with a black stripe to further accent the black wheels. it will look badass.

Well if he is anything like me, it is because he got tired of looking at the old setup and couldn't make up his mind. This is a bad, and good thing. Good for change(maybe), and bad for the money being spent! I know within the four years of having my car painted, I am changing the hood and rear spoiler again. Sucks to be this undecisive!

Black wheels are always a mistake unless they are on a car that is just for beating on at the track. All I can say is that if you want black wheels you might as well just go out to the scrap yard and pick up a set of steelies... because thats exactly what it looks like. It looks like you lost your hubcaps...

The horrible trend actually started as a practical measure taken by professionals who actually race their cars and were sick of cleaning off brake dust. Has no place on a poser street car.

I like the way it was before. I'm not a big fan of huge hoods, I prefer the lower, sleeker hood you had before. Those wheels aren't bad, but I like the old ones better. Just my opinion though

well guys,I appreciate all your opinions. I really don't want chrome SS wheels again. I sold them for a reason, too many people have them. I guess I can also remove the black paint from my wheels and polish them up like they use to be. As for the hood, I am gonna put the stock hood on and use that until I can either sell my cowl hood or score a SS hood cheap.

I love both but I think that cowl is a bit too big. Like someone said before, the old hood or an SS hood would look killer on your car. I normally don't like black wheels but they look nice on your car.

i liked it more before to tell you the truck bluntly, the hood looks weird on there, and the rims dont look right, nothing else black on the exterior to tie it too,

the white car above, wow, that is awsome.

I like it...BETTER. Much better actually.

The ONLY thing I would do is paint the headlight buckets black again. I usually don't like that, but it just looks right on your ride IMO.

Good job.

I think painting parts of the wheels different colors is just another way of expressing yourself. Like anything appearance related, what you think looks good depends on your personal tastes. And different people got different tastes so some people will like it, and some people wont. I dont think its fair to say it shouldnt be done and thats that. In my opinion it definately gives the car a different look. I think certain color combos make the car look more aggressive, gives it a different style. Yeah its possible it can be done in a tasteless manner and look horrible, that can be said for anything. I think the make it or break it for painting the spokes is what kind of lip the wheel has. If the car has a fat deep dish lip and its polished, its gonna look crazy. Put that up next to some wheel with a small lip thats also painted, the first wheel will definately look more aggressive. The wheels BOTTLEDZr28 got have a nice polished lip that sets them off. Thats the main reason I like the way they look.

Rims are awesome. Hood is a tad overkill, but hey. Personally, I would have left the buckets black but to each his/her own. Like dudes have been saying...SS hood or stocker with the blisters...gotta love the blisters.

The design of the wheel i actually pretty cool... I think removing the black paint would make your car look 5 times better.

Bottled,

I like the new wheels but have never been a fan of the cowl hood on a thridgen. I say go with the new wheels and the original hood or better yet an SS hood. And the A-piller pod looks pretty good with our cars.

That would be my vote.

The rims are Verry nice. and Will look GREAT when you do the headlight buckets and windows.

The hood is a Tad to tall is that the 4inch? I think my 3inch is Perfect. id say go for a 3inch cowl or a SS.

Sell your stock one and this one to offset the price.

black rims and polished lip look real fine on all thirdgens. i love silver red or blue thirdgens with black wheels.

your car looks great. its hard to tell, but i think that cowl hood may be fine. it looks big in that pic tho from the angle, but i think with those wheels and tinted windows, it will be one mean looking car.

I like the rims, but to me it looks like you don't have wide enough tires for the wheels in the rear.

I don't like the tall hood, the old one was much nicer.

to answer al the wuestion and comments, first the headlight buckets ARE getting painted black. I told the body shop to do them but I guess he forgot. Maybe because he was in a rush to go to laconia for bike week. I also am getting the windows retinted about 20% like they use to be. It was pulled to get an inspection sticker. I think I will start looking for a SS hood out there somewhere. Does anyone know if Harwood makes that. I dont think so though. The wheels in the back are 17x11 with a 315/35/17 Nitto Drag radial.

no idea on 1/4 times. I ran into very big problems with a 383 rotating assembly. I got it all togehter and the engine has a bad vibration to it so I am pulling the engine back out next week and starting all over. Apparently Eagle never balanced the kit AFTER I paid for a balanced kit.

hey, my opinion is i cant really say what looks better on your car, because its just that your car and it depends what look your going for, if your going for the drag look then go with the biger hood and black rims but then if your going for more of the show look then the old hood and shinny rims. But personally if it was my car i would go with the bigger hood cuz i like that look, i want people to be scared of my car. But all around eather way i like

my opinion on cowl hoods

1. they are by far the best looking hoods in the aftermarket
2. get them ONLY if you need hood clearance.
3. big hoods BETTER be covering a BIG motor!

given the last two, if your fuel injected with a stock tpi, then you don't need one and the stock hoods are great. even a fiberglass stock hood, for weight reduction, but with my carbed motor, a 3" cervini's will do wonders for performance by allowing cooler air in, and letting me run a true 3" filter without a drop base so air flow isn't restricted

i prefer the way your sig shows it. Particularly, the hood. I think an SS hood would look killer on there also, but the current one is pretty friggin high and for me it detracts from the flow of the body lines. Why' the repaint on the nose and need for retinting?
