CARBON FIBER Trim for dash

I have been thinking about adding some carbon fiber trim to the interior of my car. I have found a kit on ebay, but have not found them anywhere else.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone have a kit like this, carbon fiber, or not installed? I would like to see some pics.
Do you think that this kit would look good... majority of my car is black.

Thanks,
Brandon

I had thought of doing this myself a long time ago, at the time i was planning on it they (the kits) were going for round 300 bux... so if thats all this one costs and its what you want, and its true carbon fiber, not printed, id say go for it.

I think it would look good on a black car IF you had the proper matching interior.. like black cross grain/patterned seats so they'd all match. A set of carbon fiber faced gauges would help too. I'd say go for it (as long as it is not a sticker kit) and try it out to see what it looks like. Worst case senario, toss it back up on ebay and try get the majority of your cash back.

funny I was thinking about this yesterday, I love my stock style interior but was thinking of a way to give it a different look and carbon fiber came to mind. Never heard of or seen this kit before but it's sure interesting.

I think that I am going to contact the company and see if they can get me anymore info, and maybe get me in touch with someone that has pics of their kit in a camaro.

PLEASE... if anyone has a kit like this please post pics. Thanks.

i have a complete carbon fiber interior but very little is actually stock pieces. true CF is expensive. your looking at close to $500 just for a dashpad for the pieces that we will be selling. $1,000 plus for the original mold if you were to go have a company do it for you. it's alot of work..

Thanks for all the input guys! I don't want the whole entire dash carbon fiber, that would be too much in my eyes. I just would like to break up all the black plastic with something different.

I just realized that the link I provided was for a similar kit, but does not state that it is real carbon fiber. I would buy the real carbon fiber.

you won't find a real carbon fiber kit... too expensive and not realistic. most of them are just for looks and still outrageous in price for our cars. they do make them for c5/c6's though.

Huh? This one says that it is REAL carbon fiber. I have seen real carbon fiber used in tons of the import applications. I would figure it is just a matter of what type of material they load in the cutting machine. I hope that it is true so that both you and I are the only ones in the world with REAL carbon fiber on our interiors

After looking at the pics in the gto im even more interested. Looking at their diagram for the thirdgen dash I like the locations they picked..just not too sure about that extra hole above the window switches and hatch release..

That hole is for the manual transmission cars. It is the shift pattern plaque. In the notes it states that you must supply vehicle information regarding auto, or manual, power window and locks. I am getting serious about this as well.

It's just an overlay/laminate to go over your stok parts.

Yup! You are correct. Thats the only way I can afford to have that many real carbon fiber pieces in my car. That is the main reason I made this post to see if anyone else had a overlay type dash kit installed so I could see some pictures to see if I really like it, or not.

I thought about one thing today, how close could one get to carbon fiber "look" by adding black paint or something to fiberglass resin, if one has the right kind of mat that is.

I agree, real CF has a 'depth' to it, although im sure from a distance the sim stuff will fool a lot of people.

The UPS man showed up last night with my dash kit. The kit looks very good, and the quality appears to be very high. The instructions state it needs to be 70 degrees plus, so it might be a while before I install the kit.

I will get some pics of the kit prior to install, as soon as I get my camera problem taken care of. I will also get a bunch of installed pics - when its all done!!

Later,
Brandon

- The console section has no holes for the torx screws, so it will not sit flush. I am having to drill out the holes myself.
- The console section around the shifter pattern plate is too tight and had to be trimed to fit.
- everything else appears to be ok, but I do not have it installed yet... Too many other little projects going on.

* I will update with pics - for sure!!!!

Brandon, you might wanna consider just gluing the one without the holes on the existing one. that way it will look like you don't have the screw holes.

OR you can cut out a sheetmetal templet and screw that on, than glue it just so it would sit flush.

Hope that is good enough for the moment!!!!
- On the center console piece you might be able to see where it has no holes for the torx screws. I drilled one, and will need to do the rest. The shifter pattern also had to be opened up a little for a flush fit.

The kit appears to have a real nice finish! Have any comments regarding fitment as far as the trim being the correct size etc?

I still do not have it installed yet, but I taped up most pieces, and other than the above mentioned problems it seems to all fit pretty well. The trim around the gauges is a little thick around the top edge, but its in an area you will never notice. I think it sucks I am having to drill the holes out, but I'm sure there is just some people that would put it on like that.

If you are only after the look of CF, you can always get sheets of CF pattern vinyl, and put it where you want, trimming it to fit.

Much cheaper, and easily reversible.
