racing stripe pictures
I was hoping to start a source for people to get ideas for striped paint jobs. I just had my baby striped last week and i love it. Im hoping others will follow my lead and post one before and one after if you have them. My paints are fire red(most likely ppg) and the stripes are white with a pearl additive called pure white pigment(ppg). the stripes cost me 350 but would have cost 700-800 if my car wasnt already being painted due to someone backing into me, and the red should have cost 1500-2000 but i got a deal because i had it done when my car was being brought back to life from an accident.
sorry my pictures are tied up in another thread so it wont let me attach them to this but they are all on my cardamain

Yeah, you will get many different opinions on stripes. At the end of the day it is your car. As long as you like it is all that matters.
Oh yeah, check out my cardomain site in my sig for more pics.

Not really racing stripes, but here are Heritage Stripes on both of my cars. Personally i think they look best on third gens, but then again thats just my opinion.

wow im impressed by the response to the thread. i didnt think so many people had any type of stripe. I particularly like the full stripes the go from gfx to gfx. The accent stripes on heritage are nice thought and i wish id have done those.

A few of my own. The ones on the bottom look a little orange because of the camera I was using... but the car is really a vibrant red. (The blackouts are gone too)

Those are 315s sitting on ZR1 17x11" wheels.
To be completely honest, the tire sits out about 1/4" from the fender-well, but it's something that will be fixed with my new rear end.
The car hooks up like nobody's business. I really can't wait to finish my 383 because the 305 can't spin those tires.

My stripes are done after the 1970 style.
I painted them with copper penny pearl so, they are kinda 'ghost'
The rears end on the back of the spoiler.

I'd say go with either heritage, or a similar stripe. Full stripes dont belong on Chevy cars, sure they look decent, but don't compare to heritage stripes. I don't like when there's stripes on the nose(below the headlights, between them would be alright),roof, or the rear bumper.
Also I'd suggest you paint the stripes instead of using vinyl. You can do the stripe however you want, length, width w/e. Plus you don't get a hideous body colored stripe under the rear stripes. Like this:

Well, the upsides to vinyl are...
it's WAY cheaper.
if you don't like it after it's done, you can change colors, or just pull it right off...if you change your mind 6 months later, you can pull it off easily
It's also good or testing, before the $$$ is spent on paint.

Well I really don't know much when it comes to vinyl stripes, so you can pretty much disregard that comment. I wasn't really sure what the pricing on vinyl is either.
Oh and I didn't say that to disrespect anybody's car, I just think that it would look much better if it went all the way down. Also can anyone tell me why most people don't make it go all the way down? I don't understand.

As far as pricing goes, I'm a home business, so I have no retail space to pay for, no employees, etc., so I'm WAY cheaper than your average retail store. It's more of a hohbby than a business for me, so I'm not aiming for the ridiculous project that shohps make.Hell, a lot of what I've done is trading vinyl for car repair, since I'm physically uncapable of doing a lot of my own work.

Oh...On that white w/red striped car. With the stripes stopping there, I actually like the passenger side one, rather than the driver's side, but thats just me. It actually shows an end to the stripe, whereas the driver's side one looks like it should continue onto the bumper.
Again, that's just my opinion. I had stripes running full length on both RSs before, which most people don't like.

It just seems that those stripes seem like they stop and need to be finished. Maybe if the 1/4" stripe went down there too or if it was rounded it would look better.
Some cars do look good with the full stripes, but I just getting tired of the blue with with stripe(Dodge Viper anyone?? lol) Heritage stripes just look more elegant/thought out(cant think of a good word to put here) than full.

The woman I married like it enough to go get her own (90 RS), and get the same Radar Blue, but chose yellow for her stripes instead.

oaint sonds simple, tell him what you want and it gets done. I just had mine done and i have to go back because the stripes narrow on the driver's side rear bumper and he didnt clear coat to even the paint out because i didnt do paint and stripes all at once i need the clear coat. now my stripes are chipping from the salt and hail here in NY this weekend.
If your going to go with heritage styles the stripe should end with a little bit of paint showing on the bottom of the spoiler because the other way looks unfinished, like he got mad at you and decided he wasnt doing your bumper.
The full look is the way to go. but the accent stripe is something i really wish i had it looks so much better but i didnt realize how much of a difference a 1/16" stripe on both sides of the line could make.

I can see where you're coming from about it looking unfinished, but both can be said about both ways, but I thought of something today(prolly already thought of)
I've seen #2 and #3 done, but why doesn't anyone do #1? I may just go with #1 when I do my stripes.

#1...It provides a finished look.
To me, #2 & #3 look like they intended to continue the stripes on the bumper, but changed thier mind at the last minute.

If you have a ram air hood stripes look sick.I really feel that nothing looks better then a ram air with good stripes on it. But you really need to figure out what kind you want because obviously there are a bunch of ways to do it. Like stephen said try to vinyl first to see if you like it as much as you thought you would before you go and paint your ram air hood. If it really is as cheap as he said its worth it if your not absolutely set on one style of stripes.
And number one looks better

Hey, that is the picture of my old RS that i posted earlier in this topic. The stripes appear that way because of the angle of the picture. There is indeed a little body colored gap at the end of the stripe but its that way on all factory heritage cars. I can assure you that:

any ideas on how to tape up the heritage on a car with a cowl hood? Looks like it would be a total S.o.B or do they make a vinal kit?
