i have the single stage black done but i have alot of orange peel. i also have the huge grey stripes layed. should i wet sand the single stage first to remove orange peel or can i go ahead and clear coat then wet sand and be able to remove the orange peel by smoothig just the clear?

you wet sand before the clear to get out all the imperfections the paint should be smooth.

you can wet sand before the clear, BUT i would mainly suggest this because of how much peel you have, You do not have to generally you clear right after paint and well clear is much more forgiving than paint. how many coats of paint did you spray? clear will hold the contour of the paint. if you sand too far well hmm there goes another phase of roughing up everything prepping and re shooting.

oh and what psi is your gun set to? did you thin your paint right? never seen that much peel is why I'm asking

its a hvlp grafity feed set to 35 psi to the gun. i followed the mixing directions on the paint to the t. amazing though, i had my high rise spoiler hanging and it came out perfect no signs of orange peel. thats good but pissed me off because i sprayed it the same way as the body

Is the silver basecoat or single stage? You can sand the single stage once it's cured and clear over it. Sanding the silver will mess up the metallic flake. If your getting that much texture in single stage, you may have the same problem with the clear. Did you try moving slower with each pass or get closer with the gun? Are you using slow hardener/reducer?

i followed the directions on the can before i layed the stripes, sanding with 320 grit, but i decided to prime, then apply the silver. the stripes are rattle can. i checked with the manufacturer if the clear would work over it and they gave it the ok plus i also wet sanded the silver. i actually just wetsanded the hood with 600, 1000, and 1500 and i have 98% of the orange peel gone. whats left is so little it doesn't bother me. the hood was the worst. i still have to sand the rest of the body , but it isn't as bad as i thought.
