Custom Black Out Tail Lights

Just got my tail lights blacked out, I bought some RS type I believe with the black stripe down the middle scuffed em a lil blacked em out and then wet sanded them a little bit to bring some color through. I Think they blow the cover lenses away.

Are you missing part of your spoiler or are my eyes getting old?

Black outs look good. What did you use?

Re: Custom Black Out Tail Lights

ha ha sadly yes, a bout 3 months after painting it white, a pulled into a gas station and as i drove through a truck backed into my quarter panel. Just so happens it was a work truck with a metal lift on the back and when he hit me the corner of it punctured the metal and ripped out the back. taking the spoiler with it so now i have a primer spot and no spoiler. Just waiting to paint it...
----------
And the lights, i just used a super fine scuff pad and then mixed a lil black base coat paint in with clear and shot it, then buffed to lighten it up

Re: Custom Black Out Tail Lights

yea at first they were completely black so i wet sanded them with 2000 and then buffed with compound and then went back over and buffed with polish. It has about 3 coats put on it, depending on the amount of black in the clear

Thanks man, and if you got a local body shop they shouldn't charge you too much just to spray a few coats on em and all you gotta do is take a scuff pad an scuff them up all over. i work at a shop and i threw ten bucks at the painter helper to spray em. i scuffed, wet sanded and buffed them myself. just wet sand and buff till you get them as light as you wish
----------
also a friend gave me a pretty good idea, since the lights have ruffles in them he said i should block sand them after to make them completely smooth and re-clear them but I'm not sure if i want to, i kind of like the texture it gives them

Re: Custom Black Out Tail Lights

also they look completely black in the picture but actually if your looking at them in person the red looks like black cherry and the white looks like dark smoke Grey. i buffed them till a little color showed through and you can adjust accordingly letting more light show through because i personally don't wanna get creamed in the rear end because my black outs were "Black" i can post pics with my turn signals on too they look bad a**
----------
the first pic is close enough to see the color a little bit
