Replacement Headlight Question
Hello all,
About the only area of my car I haven't upgraded is the exterior lights. I've been doing a lot of research on LED, HID, sequential tail lights, H4 bulbs, etc. Its confusing! I basically have a plan in place, but I do have a question.
Regarding the headlights - what is the best course of action in terms of high beams and low beams. I don't think I've ever driven with the high beams on, and every light I'm looking at for the low beams is much brighter than factory anyway, so I'm not sure what to do. Leave them stock? Or should I convert them to H4 bulbs anyway? I'm considering changing the low beams to LED (from AACStyle), but they are crazy expensive and only come in one color/wattage, so I'm not sure what I would do for the high beams. I guess I could just get four of the same housings and then put LED in for low beams and some basic h4 bulb for the high beams since I'll probably never use them. Is that a good plan, or is there a better way?

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
I have the H4 system in mine and there is a issue with switching to the H4. They do not make a 2 prong H4 for the high beams. The HB plug is 2 prong and you can't just bend the third tab to fit. It will not have a ground when plugged in. I have not figured out the fix for this besides using the original sealed beam in the high beam. Not sure if the LED's you are looking at has a 2 prong for the high beams. I had an HID system which I removed. It was too bright and had to point the lights at the ground so on coming cars wouldn't flash me. The H4's are plenty bright. Just wish someone made a 4 light system.

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
Is this what you are needing? If so, this setup works great, but you may have to unpin two of the spade connectors and swap them around in the connector to get them to work right. I went through this with this company selling this harness.

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
DonW - thanks for the information but doesn't the main issue still exist, i.e. the H4 bulbs have 3 pins but the high beam connectors only have 2? I've been doing a lot of other research and they don't make a H4 single-filament bulb. Or is that what you were talking about moving the spade connector around?

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
Another question (or 2). Suppose I get LED headlights and the harness above. Can I use it with normal H4 high beam bulbs? Or would I be better off just leaving the high beams disconnected.
From a different post, I found these:

I could use those for my normal headlights and not worry about additional high beams, though I'm going to want "something" inside the housing (or just leave the stock sealed beams).

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
O.K. I just got off the phone with Steve at octane lighting. Attached is the fix for the H4 headlight issue. As you can see from the diagram the 4656 original lights have the ground on the bottom, H4 uses one of the sides for ground. I will try this on my 4 light H4 system and see if it works. I hope it does!

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
That's funny; I've been exchanging emails with Octane all morning and just placed my order - they said they would make a modification to the harness they send me, I assume its the same thing you're talking about.

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
Sorry for the late reply. I see what you mean about no 2 pin HB lights. You could use stock lights or H4 in low beams only. I like stock lights myself and the harness from octane lighting works great for that. It will also work great with H4 as your low beams. In fact, if you get those you will have to have that harness.

Re: Replacement Headlight Question
Yep... Let them swap the wires around in the harness and you will be good to go. Steve replied to my email telling me how to do it just last week when mine weren't working right. It was an easy fix once he explained it. Great they are doing it for you.
