anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

I want to see some led brake and tail light pics if you have them. I see the price for them are around $10.99 for just a pack of 2 and I want to see if there worth it.

If your talking about the LED bulbs for the taillights, then no, its not worth it. They are not very bright and dont fill the housing with light.

Check out this thread. cdoyle is in the process of doing a complete conversion, what he has so far looks great. cooltc2004 is right, the replacement "bulbs" are not bright enough and don't project far enough to be seen.

The 4th gen style rear spoiler comes with an LED brake light, maybe 20-30 leds, something like that. Just another reason to get a 4th gen style spoiler

Actually if you get the right LED bulbs you can have superior light over anything else. You need to get bulbs that have a 270º light radius. Like this ones I got for my brake lights (red) and turn indicators (amber)...

24-LED 15mm Bayonet Based Bulbs

I'm in the process of converting my whole car to LEDs where applicable.

I tried those LED replacement lights for a while and had to go back to the regular bulbs. They were only OK at night time, but you could hardly see them during the day, especially with the sun on them. For LED lights to be very effective in our tail light housings, they need to be right up next to the lens like cdoyle is doing in his conversion.

My 01 Trans Am rear wing has standard bulbs, not LEDs...

This is not entirely accurate. You can easily see my LEDs in the daylight. Again, you need to get the bulbs that shine back towards the reflective area inside the lens housing as well as forward. Mine are quite bright and they aren't even the brightest ones out there either. I posted what bulbs I use in my post above, 270º shining radius is enough to shine forward as well as back towards the relective area in the back of the lenses. Maybe you need to try some different bulbs?

Re: anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

Not trying to discourage you or anything, but the one I used were the same as you linked in your other thread. Sure you could see them in the daytime, but get the sun on them and they just couldn't compete with the normal incandescent bulb. I had too many complaints that my tails and brakes weren't distinguishable from each other, especially in the daytime. It was a safety thing for me, but do what you want, it's your car...

They work fine for me in the sun aka daylight. I'm not going to argue so I'll agree to disagree and move on.

Re: anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

I agree with Al on this one. I tried those bulbs awhile ago in a couple different variations (upgrading when they started adding more and more LEDs) but they just couldn't compare to a standard incandescent when it came to illuminating the housing. Even with the LEDs faced towards the reflectors you had this "eye" in the center of the housing that most of the light emitted from.

Sucks too because I liked the instant-on and the deepness of the red they provided.

Al or Ian, do you or anybody else have any picture so we can clear this up with our own opinions?

Re: anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

The only picture I have is this one.

Although it's missleading because of how long the exposure is. See how there's almost a beady eye in the center? That's really all you saw when you looked at it. The rest was just a slight hue. Pictures don't really give you a good idea on the light output unless you compared them in the same shot. I'll look around and see if I've still got the 36LED ones and pop one in to take a picture. Won't be till after this weekend though.

Re: anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

My idea for my 3rd gen stock spoiler 3rd brake light, is to polish the inside of the aluminum housing. maybe this would help for the LED's. and I'm using a group of LED's for the overhead light, the reg. bulb burns so hot it dryrotted the cover."my best assumption, after it crumbled upon removal."Polishing everything metal, maybe adding reflectors, and polishing the outsides of the housings "the plastic polishing tech on this site" Will this help any of you?

Re: anyone have LED brake and tail light. I want to see

I have the "solid" one for my car, I still have the red lens, so it looks pretty much stock. His kits for the in spoiler Brake lights are awesome, and all his kits are pretty cheap.
