i am thinking of painting my car silver and doing a stripe around the back with the iroc lettering below.. i tried it out with primer first. sorry.. the iroc letters vary in darkness. i was just trying to get the idea on it. looking for something new and interesting for a third gen. let me know what you think!
yes the lettering and stripe would be black.. and a bunch of older cars have had the stripe around the back. i have just never seen it on a third gen and thought it might work well. what i was really wanting to do was a stripe around the front like the early camaro rally sports, but i couldn't find a way to do it without it looking weird. the front of the car is not square enough... just looking for something a little different and i am a big fan of the 60's and 70's muscle cars. thanks for the replies so far.. i will not take offense if people do not like it. i just want opinions!
if you haven't already patented it, I'm copying it :-)
lol... that's cool. the more i look at it, the more i like the idea. i will probably have a stencil of the letters made (like a decal) so they will be perfect. the stripe i can do on my own, and i will bury it all in clear. should be slick. i kind of wish that there was enough room to put iroc-z but in order to do that i would have to shrink the letters down even more and they are only an inch tall right now. also.. if i do this i will not put the iroc decals on the doors.
I didnt like it at first but the more i look at it the more it grows on me. Seems like its either missing something, or doesnt have enough to it though, if that makes sense. Maybe leave IROC out and lengthen the stripe? Time for me to get to photoshoping now. Id love to see a finished product. You might have just stared a new trend.
Whatever color you make that stripe, make sure you accent that same color somewhere on the front(but visible from a side view) of the car as well so it doesn't appear as the only part of the paint that's that color. It will look out of place if you leave that as the only part of the car a different color. Don't know if I worded that correctly.
Personally I don't like it, wouldn't do it. Third gens are almost a perfect combination of aerodynamics, and silly American muscle car looks. Hah.
I just think the car is meant to flow, and not be basically clogged up with decals that don't go with the body shape.
I like the idea in general though, at least creative minds are still at work and trying to figure out how to make these cars look even cooler.
Keep the thread updated if you go along with it! I'd love to see, it actually might end up looking super good. You may set a new trend, like Sinister Z and the hockey stripe on the sides!

If not, I'm pretty sure he was one of the first. On Sinister's Car Domain page he mentions not seeing another Third Gen with the hockey stripe, and I believe he set that trend, with being Canadian and all.. The hockey.
But anyway, who cares, just a stripe!

Yeah, just a hockey stripe. Him being canadian....that's funny. You canadians and your hockey ey! Fun sport to watch when there's a fight. Kinda like Nascar when there's a crash.

please keep in mind that this is just a quick trial that i did with masking tape and newspaper. i know it's not perfect and i know my hatch alignment needs attention. thanks!

Really nice idea, think it could look good. following the right body lines will be key in making it perfect. I'm surprised the photochop guys haven't come in yet and worked their magic to enhance it a bit
I think the idea is unique and would work. Only comment is to angle the rear edge to the same angle of the front edge of the taillights just to keep some symmetry back there. Go for it. Later.
Thats cool dude. custom paint jobs look great on camaros theres so many things you can do and so many differnt designs, i love seeing a custom paint job on camaros... really discribes the driver if ya know what i mean.
IROC-Z will fit in there. Have you considered pulling the stripe into the front of the car? You could then inlay the IROC-Z in the stripe and I could be as long as it needs to be. Some ideas...

Possibly without the IROC, and I decided to try it out on mine.

that looks kind of good black and sharpened up.. is there any way you could (on the pic of my car) add the iroc.. or iroc-z if you can and make the car a medium silver color?? nice work by the way!
or maybe leave the stripe going to the body line and add iroc inside the stripe..body color.. or white maybe. you could also do engine size in there, or whatever.

Yea i can see what i can do. I dont know if the medium silver will be glossy maybe gray-ish.

Slightly darkend car and stripe with reverse italic IROC, to match shape of stripe, IROC same color in stripe. Now that ive done it like this it looks really good inside the stipe IMO. With engine or model type inside the stripe.
i think we may have a winner here.. now to decide if i should leave the stripe that short or bring it down to the body line (or at least a lot closer). THANKS!

If you look at the pic i did of my car I extended the stripe out a little further. I tried going longer and it just started to look weird. The way you have the stripe right now looks best. As long as you take the IROC off the bottom and move it into the stripe, your length is perfect. If anything try to thicken the stripe.

Not bad but.....
While the angle matches where the spoiler meets the body, the rear, trailing edge of the spoiler is steeper & what stands out more, as "the" angle the spoiler sits at.
What would it look like, if it matched that angle? I know it can't match both, unless each side was different, like the spoiler is (where it meets the body vs where the trailing edge is). Make sense?

I think i know what you mean. I can try to mock something up. So things are clear you want to see what the stripe would look like it matched the angle of the trailing edge of the spoiler?

Yeah. I think the trailing edge draws more attention to the eye of the angle, than the base does.
Maybe if the stripe butted up against the spoiler, that angle might "disappear" & only the trailing edge angle would be left to see? Just an idea.

Not too sure about what you mean by the stripe butting against the spoiler, but this is what i got from your preferred angle. It does have quite a catch to the eye.
Stripe as spoiler meets body.
Stripe as tailing angle of spoiler.
