^^Just making a note....to you guys that are submitting pics to try to get your ride in a magazine, it REALLY helps when you have professional looking shots like these. The magazine editers don't really want to see a pic of the car with your toyota camry in the background, or something like that.

I have one in mind

An old school in the area. The back of it is all vine covered and old looking. Makes a real nice backdrop!

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!

This is comical. I have been a suscriber to GM High Tech Performance since I don't know when. It use to be a really great magazine. It is still a great magaize, if you have an LS1. Granted the LS1 is a great platform but it is not the only one. I sent an email to Scott Parker over a year ago asking to please put other subjects in here besides the LS1 and he stated he would and in fact did, albeit a short time. So I sent another email to him him. Here it is:

Scott,
Just got your August 12 issue. You guys are aware that there are other cars besides those with LS based enginesright? Here is also another surprise. There are also other engines. I am seriously thinking about canceling my subscription. I wrote to you some time ago where you said you would have an eclectic mix of cars. So much for that. Truly disappointing. Out of 83 pages 76 had something to do with either an LS car or LS component. Wow.

Now before someone goes on a rave telling me that the LS1 market is driving the market and I have no idea what it takes to run a magazine, I agree. Yes it does and no I don't. However, why not simply call the magazine LS1 High Tech. Then idiots like me would have something else to complain about. Don't purport to be a magazine that covers others platforms when clearly it doesn't. Let me take that back, it does, on rare ocassions. There may be a third gen article or a GN article but not often. In this last issue there certaintly is a Regal, but guess what? You got it, an LS1 is being swapped into it. Surprise surprise. So now you can go ahead and tell me take my money and suscribe to another magazine which I most certaintly will do. One other thing, yes this is my opinion and yes I know they are like butt holes. Everyone has one and they ususally stink. If you are going to read this and then lambast me in every which way you can, please don't waste your time. I'm really not worth it.

While I am not here to lambast you, I would like to respond to your comments. I appreciate your opinion and will do my best to take it under consideration moving forward with our editorial plans. We have just taken on a new third-gen project with the goal of satisfying a definite lack of tech in this area as of late. This has been somewhat of a transition period unfortunately as Project Snowball (third-gen Formula) is wrapping up as is our Grand National project (Turbo Buick Basics) and Dirty Bird (our budget 10-second LT1 Firebird). You can expect edit on the GN in the next issue, and by the February issue we'll be elbow deep in non-LS tech.

That being said, I don't find your comments to be an accurate description of the magazine's direction over the last year, let alone the last four years that I have been Editor. How would we have managed to complete all these projects in the last few years if we only did LS tech? As for diversity in the features, that is entirely dictated by what people are building. There is not an abundance of new feature-worthy Turbo Buick and TPI builds at the moment, but we are always on the lookout. However, we have managed to cover virtually every late model performance platform GM has made (CTS-V, GTO, G8 GT, Solstice, C5/C6) and even some pretty cool trucks besides our core fourth- and fifth-gens, which represent the bulk of our readership.

As someone else pointed out, we strive to cover the latest products and newest technology. And unfortunately for TPI lovers, the thrust of those efforts has been in the LS segment. If you recall, we were one of the first to cover the EFI Connections kit and we are always on the lookout for the next "big thing." If you have any ideas, feel free to write in or post on our messageboard. Justin will continue to monitor this thread for our Street Heat section. Those who think they have a feature-worthy car can feel free to PM or email me. Of course, showing up at events is also a good way to get in the magazine.

Car is a 1991 GTA Trans Am with 93k original miles. The car rolled out of paint in the spring. The wheels were powder coated for longevity and look pretty close to the factory wheels. The mods on the car are tinted and clear coated tail lights Hooker 2055 emissions header and a Borla cat back.

I've been in Street Heat twice now I think. I've got a bunch of new goodies to make the appearance a little slicker for this season and I am going to have a professional photographer take some really good photos of it in the next couple of months. It would be awesome to get a feature in your magazine, I'll send you a PM when I have feature-worthy photos to show you.

And another thing, I just subscribed to your guys' electronic edition for Android tablets, and it is awesome. Really top notch quality.

all the emblems ( nose, sideskirts rear bumper, wheels) have been changed by brand new emblems from hawksthirdgen.

The gauges are by Nordskog Performance, but unfortunately they went out of business a few years ago... You might be able to find something on ebay. Thanks for the comment!

I've been looking for a replacement since they folded. I'm still getting stupid emails from Chevy mags. Unless you have a Camaro or Vette there's nothing out there. Sucks.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!

The editors have a new web based magazine called GM-EFI now. Feel free to check it out. One of their project cars is a 3rd gen Firebird that they are going to LS swap.

There are GMHTP sections in Super Chevy as well. Super Chevy is what I got when GMHTP folded up. I'm probably not going to renew though, their feature cars don't hold a candle to HOTROD and Car Craft.

You beat me to it! I used to get 7 magazines a month in the mailbox... then GMHTP and HPP folded and I cancelled one other. Now I only get 4. lol

I never throw any of them away either... boxes and boxes in the basement. I've got every HPP back into the mid 90's.

Beats what they gave me when HPP folded... they gave me Motortrend. Completely useless rag. I asked them to extend my Car Craft subscription instead, which they thankfully did. I think I have ~7 years of CC now...

Have you seen a recent issue of Smoke Signals? The POCI has put a lot of effort into revamping that mag, and it's pretty darned nice. I'm enjoying it, and learning a lot about Pontiacs that I did not know.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!

Last one I was still pushing was Car Craft. I got so damn sick of the never ending turbo LS1 articles and peppered articles about obscure oddball ****, I stopped paying close attention. What finally did it in was the NON-STOP harassment and subscription begging. I'd re-up 2-3 years at a time, and in 9 months they'd start sending me offers. Worse yet the offers were worse than Harbor Freight ads. Prices weren't consistent. They'd offer me 4 different prices in a 90 day period. Cancelled my subscription, flagged all their spam emails, told them to stop harassing me to re-up, and eventually they went away.

Hard copies of magazines are a double edged sword anyway. Can't throw or give them away. It's impossible to ever find an issue when you want to refer back to it. They weigh so much, the boxes require GOOD quality shelves, many a discount store steel shelf has been tried by car magazines, and been found wanting.

Did I mention that old articles aren't always that useful even when you can find the one you're looking for? Since technology and the aftermarket is constantly coming out with new solutions and parts, and discontinuing old ones, it's hard to replicate any part of a build anyway.

I'm getting about the same way. I used to subscribe to a ton of different mags. Every time we go to Barnes and Noble I peruse the magazines and can't find anything worth buying anymore.

I don't think these magazines realize that TURBO EVERYTHING alienates people who aren't doing turbos, which is over 90% of V8 owners. Either that or they don't care since turbos add so much complexity and stress that people have to buy a mountain of parts from advertisers.
