IROC is totalled

Well , I enjoyed the LT1 swap for 1 week anyways . I just finished the car after 3 months . I was taking a friend for a ride and a old couple pulled out in front of me . Nothing I could do , I swerved , they clipped the rear and sent me airborne and spinning . I hit a telephone pole 9 ft up in the air and flattend 7 mailboxes by the time I was done spinning . Car is total loss . All the rear suspension mounts were ripped from the frame , we never found the tailshaft from the tranny , frame is badly twisted . The only panel thats not damaged is the hood and front fascia . AMAZINGLY no one was hurt . For the amount of damage under the car , the passenger cabin held up extremely well . Anyways , I'm done for awhile , this one hurts

Here's all the pics :

Yes Derek...you are VERY lucky!!

Like we're talking about on AIM right now...you and I have been and are in the same boat!

Both of us got our LT1 stuff done, and had it a very short time...and then BAM...an accident!

We both walked away from horrible accidents...and we should both be very thankful that it was just our cars that were deemed totaled...and not us, ourselves.

Good luck with everything man. It's not an easy thing to have to deal with. All that time and effort and work...now wasted.

But bounce back though, when you feel comfortable...I am...and hopefully it'll be well worth it!

Later bro!

Damn! That was a bad car!! Thank G0D you're not hurt. If I get into a wreck I want it to be BEFORE I put too much into it and I don't want it to get totalled. I just want money to fix what they did and more lol. My friend got hit in the driver's rear ¼ panel right on the fenderwell. His car is an 88 Firebird. VERY nice just got painted less than a year ago. It's pearl white with the big bird on the hood... well you can't tell the dent is even there unless you get close. No paint chipped just a dent. it's at the very bottom of the fenderwell.. Anywayz... he used the $1200 from the insurance company to get new kelly charger black letter tires and american eagle chrome rims... they look bad!

My condolences on your car. "She went before her time." as the famous quote goes.

Dude, that sucks sooo bad!

I am just starting with major mods to my car, and I can't think of how bad it would be if it was totaled after I got done with it.
Hope you can at least get a good amount from the insurance and use the parts off your wrecked car to make one badass car.

I feel your pain.

Ah man, that was a beautiful third gen man. Like everyone else has said though,I am glad to hear your alright, cars can be replaced lives however cannot. I know I would be tore up bad if my car got totalled. With the time and money we spend on them its like losing a part of yourself. I feel sure in time you will build another one though. Keep up the good work.

i feel your pain Derek. if anyone on here knows EXACTLY what you are feeling i do. i lost mine to an idiot driver, not going to go into detail's( you can read those on my web site http://screamindeamin.cz28.com/images/wreck )
i felt sick for weeks.. do you? glad to hear no one was hurt, things could have been alot worse. as for insurance what are you going to do? was it your fault? in my case his insurance company tried to bend me over and smack my a$$, to make a long story short i used all the receipts that i had still and called up summit who next day aired the rest of my receipts to me. this will help you get as much cash as possible from the insurance company. also photos of the buildup and any other things that you had to do will help you better than any lawyer or joe blow off the street can. good luck!

Not to be a **** , but that is actually one of the first things that came to my mind, "I wonder if he wants to sell that engine and hood..." Hey, if he decides to build another killer Camaro, GREAT! If not, why not sell the salvageable parts to another 3rdgen enthusiast who will put them to good use in their own project cars?

We all need to hold a moment of silence for our fallen comrade. I know you're still mourning the loss, but what are you going to do. Rebuild, get a 4th gen, part it out, or just forget about it all together?

I second the notion of old people being sucky a** drivers. If i see another 70s chrystler putting down a 55 mph country road at 30 I will go balistic. I say we loby congress for manditory driving test after 60...oh wait they are all old farts themselves, not to mention they are the only ones who vote in large enough numbers.

Seems like all of us LT1 swap guys are having problems. About two months after my LT1 swap some lady ran a redlight and hit my car. I feel your pain. Mine still isn't back from the body shop. You can see some pics of it at www.angelfire.com/tx/brune

As far as being sad , nah....enraged is a better way to describe it As far as everyone asking for parts , I don't know yet if I can find a place to put a wrecked car and part it out , so I don't know if Im gonna buy it back or not . Most of the rear suspension mounts were ripped right out of the frame , so even getting it onto a flat bed to move around is a BIG ordeal .

A group of senior citizens at a
Florida retirement community are
sitting around discussing all
their aliments.

"My arms are so weak I can barely
lift a cup of tea to my mouth"! says one.
"So, my cataracts are so bad I can't
even see my cup of tea!" says another.
" Well, I can't turn my head because of
my arthritis!" comments a third.
"My dam blood pressure pills make me
dizzy!" replies a fourth
" O well! I guess that's just the price we
pay for living to be so dam old!" sighs a
man as he shakes his head.
There is a moment of silence
as they all nod their heads in agreement
Finally...
a woman pipes up & says! "Well, just thank *** we all can still drive!"

the first offer on my car from his insurance was like $1100, i told them to stick it where the sun dont shine, except in a different way and pissed off tone. finally after 4 offers i accepted and kept my car. Do you know anyone personally that has a shop or salvage yard? i had my trans shop right me up a receipt for $1500 for my trans and had them do a few more that i couldn't find. just keep telling them to **** off till you see the right number, by law here in texas you can drag it out as long as you want until you feel the offer is fair, i dont know if yall have a law like that there. also keep mentioning that it was a custom/highly modded car and this puts you at a dissability. are you old enough to have a rental car? at first they wouldnt give me one because i was only 18, after a few phone calls and some a** chewing, waa laa a rental car was waiting for me when i got off work that same day . you could also get someone to come out and do an appraisel on the car and what it would have cost to have built it, this usually cost you money to get the appraisel but it might help you out if your not seeing the right numbers.

I can't believe it man, I just know the rage going through you head right now. Thank *** you're ok, and now that you are you can feel a good deal angry. Just in the last week, two people have ran red lights on me and I was inches away from an accident. Rage went through my head and I actually went after the guys until my bro calmed me down (I was driving fast and wreckless. Hope you find a nice replacement.

Camaro parts are so hard to find no junkyards have and Camaro part and it they do don't last long. Not many car go for parts so I can't find any engine anywhere I look in all places, and I’m right next to Gary, IN the junk yard city no Camaro parts. Plus it sucks having my IROC for 3 weeks and have it sit all summer parked in my driveway, still have to pay full coverage insurance, and making payments on a car that’s sat since April 19 2001.
I just lost my Nova clone. My Omega was one bad a$$ car, but the body just gave out and I blew out a brand new leaf and whole assemble killing the car and having to trade to my uncle for a 4 cylinder just so I have transportation he's using it for parts. Losing the Oldsmobile 350 rocket engine that was so nice.
