rust and other body repair?
After sitting for most of the winter my car needs some paint repair. The left front fender has a dent in it from something in my uncles garage hitting it. What is the best way to reapair it, pull it or use a rubber mallet and a backing plate to hit against. I cant afford a good set of body work tools other wise i would buy them. also there are some rust spots around teh rear fender wells. what is the best way to remove the rust? What number sand paper sheets should i get? I will be using good old rattle can primer and paint to fix. i want the best results i can get with spray cans so any help will be great.

As is my experience, dent-pullers don't work too well. I've never tried with a rubber mallet, so maybe you could try that first. I've only used Bondo to fix dents, but that requires much more work than pulling it out...
As for the rust, if it hasn't penetrated the paint too badly yet, you can probably remove it with some polishing compound. If it has broken through the paint, i'd try sanding it off. If you could provide some pictures, i'd be able to help you out more....
Spray-can paint & primer should be good enough for what you need to do. Buy some very fine-grit sandpaper, because you'll need it to sand the primer & wet-sand the paint.
