Close up of the speedo.............
Lessons learned: use 194 blacklight bulbs and some DayGlo paint for the needles.
Dont hook up the power wire to the fog light wiring, as it turns off the gauges when you turn on your highbeams.
Do not touch the back of the **** or pad when the gauges are on...........shocking!
Hope this helps some of you out there. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or PM me.

I've never seen black light bulbs like you are talking about. Where did you get them?

CaysE,
Dont worry, the gauges only look green in the pic. When you set it to blue, it is almost all blue. It looks really good. I wanted blue also, to match my Clarion ProAudio head unit. It matches well.
Alloy,
I will have to search for the UV lights again. I forgot where I saw them. If all else fails, I will install a blacklight above the cluster, but behind the plastic. It will only show on the needles. I will get it worked out tomorrow.

I am with CaysE. I didn't want green or shades thereof.

I took a look at the website that you guys got the reverse guages from, and I could not find one for the 110mph guages. I have a 90 RS and I swear this is the hardest car on the face of the earth to shop for!! Does anyone know if I'm just blind and if not where I can get one? Those look really tight and when I get my new metallic blue paint job that would make a great accent.

Nevermind, looked a little closer and it turns out someone already started a buy-in for my car.

I'm sorry, but none of the other reverse gauge overlays on the site look like this. In my opinion, he didn't sell what he was advertising. I'm getting my money back. I really didn't want three colors on my overlays, and especially not that huge ugly field of green in the middle. What a dissappointment...

sent an email... here it is
Hi, this is Casey, one of the organizing members of the buy-in production of the 86-89 Camaro reverse overlays. I have to tell you, I'm disappointed with the results of these. I looked through as much of the website as I could, and I don't see any other reverse overlays that include red, blue, and green on them at the same time. I was under the impression that, in regards to anything on the overlays that was blue, that it would be able to be switched between all blue to all green. The combination of greenish lines with the blue numbering is not want I wanted to have, and is not shown in any other examples on your website. The large green circular field in the center of the speedo and tach overlays is also not shown on any of your other reverse overlays, and is exactly one of the things I thought would be avoided by choosing your company.
The reverse overlays shown on your website for such things as the Suzuki motorcycles look, in my opinion, absolutely perfect for what I am looking for, with the blue and red only and no ugly circular fields of indiglo in the middle of the gauges. Perhaps your design team was looking to try something a little different, but this is not what I was looking to buy. In my opinion, I didn't get what I paid for.
The bottom line is, I DO want a set of these overlays, but I want them to look like all the other reverse overlays you have advertised. If this is still possible without having to go through a whole new buy-in, then let's work it out. I do admire your product for what is shown on the website, but what I have in my hands is just not up to par. If nothing else can be done, I would like to get my money back. Thanks for your consideration.
I hope something good will come of this, but considering the way most businesses operate, I doubt I'll get what I really want (good looking reverse overlays without spending MORE money). But let's see what happens. Maybe they'll surprise me.

I agree with CaysE, I too am disapointed with the huge green blob that I see in the pictures. I am looking forward to the response you get from your email. Maybe it looks better in person on the car, but the pics don't look real good with that huge blob staring at me.

I just talked to SR motorsports and asked where the cluster is I sent in. He's going to check on it and call me back.
I also told him that pretty much everyone that did the buy in isn't happy at all with the green circle in the center of the gauges. His response is that this is the new style they are going to and they are phasing out the older style.
The "new" style is what they are getting requests for and they combine the two styles together so to speak for the "best of both worlds". He tells me all the manufactures are going to this style.
I'll let you know what he says when he calls back.

Yes, I was aware that most manufacturers are going to this style, but for him to not tell us is just bad business, and not getting what we asked for. Hardly anyone ever made the type that S/R Motorsports has advertised now, so the whole "phasing out" thing is kinda BS. When other companies started making reverse style, they made them with that enormous, disgusting blob in the middle.
Tell him that we want the "older" style. Who cares what the other companies are doing... The old ones are what we ordered and it's what we want.

I just checked this to see the night pics, and I agree with you guys, that green in the middle looks horrible. Also, on my gauges, the oil pressure gauge is 0-30-60 and on these I see its 0-40-80. Any reason for that?

I didn't even see that one. I checked mine and the oil is marked incorrectly also.
They haven't called me back yet (no surprise there). If they don't, I'll call tomorrow and see what's going on and mention the error on the oil pressure overlay and let you know what they say.

I installed mine tonight, took a loonnnggg time.. lot of work IMO... Im pretty happy with them, none the less because hardly ANYONE has them... and in person ill probably NEVER see anyone with them. one thing i did wrong was - Left the white bulbs in, which makes it white and "indiglo" but ill have to pull them out when i pull the cluster out to do the blacklight bulbs and such if they work. Now i do have one question.. how in the world am i supposed to calibrate the tachs... EVERYTHING is SOOO off its not even funny.... z28***** told me they were self calibrating, i thought so to i also used 3M exterior double sided tape to hold the faces onto the gauges, seems to work very nicely, and they can take an incredible amount of heat to.

Why do you have to re-calibrate your gauges?

I noticed I got the wrong redline on the tach (should be 4500 or 5000, not 5500), and now the oil pressure numbers. Interesting. This is just getting worse and worse.

If they would make the right gauges (redline and oil PSI) and get rid of the green in the middle and red circle, I'd probably buy them. But I dont have a tripometer, so that would look dumb with nothing in the holes. I also don't need km/h, that just clutters it up. Other than all that, they look okay.

i have a 5500 redline tach and 0 40 80 oil pressure, and that's the right one for my LG4, i think the 5000 redline 0 30 60 is for the TBI engines.
i could be wrong tho.......
Edit: i was wrong, i need the 5000 redline, but the oil gauge all depends on what sensor you put in. so you can change the sensor one that peaks at 60 or 80 to make it work with the gauge you have.

Well, has anyone heard back from SR? I like the gauges, but the tach is wrong.
One thing, the needles. I have tried several options to get them to glow, but to no avail. I am about ready to give up on this. I am really trying to get this to work, but I am not going to spend more and more money on it. I was even thinking about doing the "glowing needle" trick that the ric*ers use.
Anyone else get the gauges installed?

Wootah,
What are you going to do for needle illumination? I have been thinking of using fiber optics to transmit some light to make the needles light up.
Anyone else have any ideas?

not sure man, i drove it home that night, and to be honest, yea the needles dont glow or anything, but you CAN see them. Doesnt really bother me that much, and the way i figure, the judges at the car shwos wont have a clue what it looks like at night so.. good enough for me fiber obtics seem like alot of work also, not really worth the time / $$$ IMO.

Tom,
Why don't you put the black light right behind the gauges where the 194 bulbs are, or is there not enough space, and if there isn't, can ya make some? Then when you turn them on it will light up the needles from behind.

With the wiring and such back there, it does not leave enough room. Since the 194 blacklight bulbs that I found at Pepboys are running 4 buck for 2, I have given up on that idea. Too much money just for bulbs. As Wootah said, you can see the needles just a little, but I do quite a bit of night driving. Dont want to get pulled over for not knowing just how fast I was driving.
Maybe if I painted the black metal bezel "chrome" or something and drilled some new holes in the back of the cluster, then maybe. I was thinking of mounting two 3" blacklights inside of the cluster. Hmmmmmmmm......................

i sent them an e-mail about the tach:
hi, i just got a set of your 1982-1989 Chevy Camaro gauges for the 145 speedo, but the tach dosen't have the right redline, i need the one you sell with the 115 speedo that has a 5000 redline, can i exchange this?
this was their reply:
Sorry as we are a little confused, the one you got already has the 5000 redline, the 115 MPH has a 5500 redline. Either way we can not break a set and trade out just that gauge. You would have to but the 115 set as well, You could take the other pieces and sell them on ebay or something, but we could not sell them, so we can not do that. The RPM is only different by 500, which is not a big deal, at least to me for $69.99 more! But if you want to order another that would be fine with us.
i'm glad he knows what I have sitting in front of me better than i do, i'll have to get my eyes checked, cuz it looks like a 5500 redline to me. (see pic above)

OK, I gave them a call, and here's what I got for everyone:
As far as the tachs are concerned, the redlines are going to be fixed. The oil pressure numbers are in regards to what size engine you have. 0-30-60 for 305s and 0-40-80 for 350s.
As for the larger problem... the actual look of the gauges, they are going to produce overlays in the original "older" style, without the indiglo circles and center fields, and will be available as trades for UNINSTALLED overlays that we originally recieved. They won't take them back if they've been installed (unless you can get them to look brand new again, then you'll probably get away with it).
What I need from everyone, is a listing of their oil pressure and tach redline numbers on the original gauges (not the overlays), so I can email S/R and let them know exactly what is needed. Post em up!
ALSO... they will be producing HVAC and auto shift plate overlays as a package together. For those of you with manual, I'm sure something can be worked out with S/R, but for now, I just need to get together a group of interested people for the pre-buy-in. I'll put up a seperate post for that.

Mine are installed.. but i donno if i wanna go through all that hassle with pulling them out and putting em back in... as far as the redline goes.. when do you actually have to worry about redlining.. you know your cars limits.. and oil pressure.. as long as the needles up, your good to go

Since I will be converting to a more powerful engine anyway, the higher redline and the higher pressure is fine with me.

Well it sounds like you got more info from them than I did. I called today and was told the same thing, that 305's got a 0-30-60 oil pressure gauge face, and 350's got the 0-40-80 ones. I myself had no idea that there was any difference, so I can't really blame SR for this. No one here mentioned it, but it sounds like it's being taken care of.
I also was told that the sample cluster is on it's way back from Taiwan where the overlays are made. They shipped the overlays by air, and apparently are sending the cluster back by surface.
Cory, your cluster has the 0-30-60 oil gauge. So does my car.
As far as the redline goes, for me it's not a big deal to have it off by 500 rpm. My car has 144k on it and I never spin the motor over 4500 anyway. I dn't want to break it, and besides all my power falls off at 4300 anyway. At least that's what the dyno says, so there is absolutely for me to go any higher. But I agree if they are going to make new overlays, lets get them correct in all aspects.
Any word on when the new overlays will be ready for us to trade for?

None yet. I am going to gather some people interested in the HVAC and auto shift plate overlays (https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=176836) and take inventory of who has which oil pressure numbers and redlines. I'll get word when I email them.
