headliner repair ||gotta check this out||

ok d00ds i got the best headliner repair in here. Ok i will give you very detail instructions that noone else has given you. Tips that make the job ten times easier.

Get Supplies: Fabric, 1 1/4 yards will do. Spray adhesive, i got the cheap stuff but it will be fine since the fabric is fur. Hot glue gun with glue sticks(about ten). Very sharp scissors(tip: the dull ones will make it look ugly, no doubt. Duct Tape.

Presteps: repair any rips in the fiberglass first, i used duct tape instead of that fiberglass shizz. Just put some spray adhesive down then the tape and it stuck really good.

ok step one: You put all the fabric on the floor to make sure you got all the right lengths. Then lay it out on the board how you want it. Then start doing small parts of it at a time. I did both the front arms first then went to the middle and then to the back. Spray handsomley. (tip: dont cut the fabirc before you glue, thats the stupidest thing you could do).

step two: Flip over the board so you can see where to cut the fabric. Then cut. (tip: always give yourself atleast 1/2in overlap)

step three: Do all the corners first. If you have strechable fabric(which you should definatively have) just put hot glue down and use three fingers to push the fabic onto the hot glue. DONT BURN YOURSELF!!!!!!! (tip: the corners have to be done with the most care on precision, or else the whole thing will be stupid looking)

step four: Glue everything else down. (tip; dont burn yourself)

Step five: Cut all the holes for everything, the light, the visors, the seat belts. for the seat belts i have so idea how you are sopposed to do it but i glued it down then with the scissors i cut the line out so you could put it in (tip: use a rasor blade for the holes and cut a line then diagnal to the corners see below diagram)

diagram for cutting

Step six: flip it over and admire your beautiful work.

I'll post it in the car tomorow when i do that. But i'm positive it will be perfect. this whole project only cost me $16 at walmart(everything was at walmart).

Heres a tip if youre going to do this: instead of 1 1/4 yards of material, get two and re-cover the speaker covers as well, they look badass newly covered and matching.

Hah. sweet.

But, you should of gotten pink.

And now you need big ol' dice.

I think it would be easy to deduct that using fur has never been done in a thirdgen before.

ok d00ds, got one more large tip. when doing the sun visors, make sure you remember what side the screw is on and make sure it is still accessible. Seen in the pic.

I don't know about this. I understand the concept of recovering your headliner. But what on this earth made you want mink fur? I have only seen such things on lowered pimp mobiles and shagwaggons. Never a muscle car.

You did a good job quality wise and your instructions are good. I have to give you high marks for originality. However I have to give it the thumbs down in the taste department.

PROS=Good job and original
CONS=Looks good if your into low riders and chrome. :nono:

After your pics finally loaded on my damn dial-up. I have to say that it is better than I would have imaged. I would still not do it to my own car. But it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. It would have been much worse if it was leopard or cheetah skin.

yeah d00d fur was on the back of my mind when i went to go get fabric. I went to walmart and looked through everything they had and my sis says how about this fur shane, i said ah nooo!. I wanted to keep the theme ya know, then i found the gray/dark gray color fur and it didn't look half bad. Looks even better in my car.

Oh yeah i tried my best to make it dial up friendly for you guys. Can you tell? my browser still uses the cached pics so i cant see it yet but everything was brought to 329x240(had to keep the aspect ratio of my digital camera).

I saw a Camaro in my area about a month ago with leopard fur on the headliner and it even had a dash cover made of leopard fur. So maybe you're not the first, but the ifrst on the boards =) I don't know if you should of used the cheap spray stuff though....I don't think it matters what material you have on there the headliner spray stuff is made to withstand the heat that our cars might get and such...but I like the hot glue gun idea, good job.

i didn't only use that ****, i know it wont hold so about every inch i put a dot of hot glue to help hold it better. Since its so thick you wont be able to tell. But in the instructions i didn't say that because most peopel wont use fur ya know.

nice work. very clean and professional job. i wouldn't do that material in my car - but i wouldn't go as far to say it only belongs in chromed-out low riders. i quite like it.

yeah do you guys like my silver console and door panels, I even painted the shifter boot. Its cool man.

yeah thanks d00ds

when i look at it it seems to actually blend in with the door panels cause that purple on the door blends in with what the fur turns into when it is leaned over.

the cars just for, well ya know, a girl see's that fur in your car she cant help but get in and touch it, feel it. You know what i'm talking about.

And plus on the door handles it actually serve a purpose, makes it feel better on you and it wont make you sweat when you touch it now.

Just wait till your headliner starts to shed hair all over the car......

Seriously that fur on the door handles must be so damn annoying, especially when it's hot out and then add humidity......man, i could only imagine.....

But it does look to be a quality job, just not something that i would do.....

You could always use some nice fake suede material....

yeah i'll have to find out since i only put all this stuff in yesterday(7-30-03). But it seems to be pretty good. And thats the first time i've ever done anything crafty like that to anything. I mean on the door handle you can't find the seems. Well you can know where they are, but not find them. Most of the job was just common sence, ya know.

and as for the headliner shedding, its like new carpet i guess, when you first get it it sheds a whole bunch but after a while of vacuuming it dont shed anymore.

and when i'm driving i usually dont put my hands on the armrest at all. I usually rest my right hand on the console lid. But for the passenger, i donno.

and on the board i was trying so hard to get them lines to be as strait as possibel, i think i did very good overal though.

and as for all you people who say you wouldn't do it, it looks way better than it seems to be in person. If you saw the real colors of it, and everything it seems soooo cool. My digital camera that i got yesterday for $150, dont do sh*t for me cause it flashes too much, or without flash is too dark. But the light gray matches the rest of the car's light gray but the dark gray i donno what it matches, it just goes with the whole thing.

That is not cool. Not in any way, shape or form. Everyone in this forum now has less taste for having seen it. I'll defend almost any form of expression, but come on.....that's just not cool. If you truly love it, then I guess that's all that matters, and at the end of the day, we're all thirdgenners.

I applaud the effort.

thanks d00d, i did do one other customiztion before. I added an extra cig lighter in the back to power the neon lights on my speakers. It was a pretty good job too. As far as like styling like the headliner, i plan on covermy center console with something, probrably pleather. Some thing cool. I'm a pretty crafty guy, i mean i can do anything with just about anything. Just takes a plan and a little bit of confidence.

well anyways yeah at the end of the day we are all thirdgenners

I apologize for my comment.

Honestly.

I'm the guy you guys always see on this site defending someones right to do something no matter how much I dislike it. Honestly, I think that this shaggy carpet mod is.....well, not my taste at all, but non the less, it's his choice. I don't have to like it, but it's just another thirdgen that adds some spice to our flavor of cars.

Nice work. And yeah, no matter how much I respect the 4th gen console mod, it looks outta place to me.

Oh my ***...

When this guy joined I had my doubts..

But look at the stuff he posted, how can you not love him?

how did you become a moderator? i wanna become one. Oh yeah can you close another moderators thread? And like if i put it i the wrong room i can move it right?
He just wants to become a moderator... Good times.

the cars just for, well ya know, a girl see's that fur in your car she cant help but get in and touch it, feel it. You know what i'm talking about.
And can you even attempt to argue with that? It is damn true and you all know it. Damnit, I need my sheepskin seat covers back.

...no just try not to enjoy this thread...

That mod is damn original, and even though it is borderline "What the hell was this guy huffing" you have to admit it was done with a good measure of skill.
