changing color on 4th gen console
has anyone recolored their 4th gen center console?
what did you use ?
how has it held up?
I have a line on a 98+ Graphite(?, its a dark gray) console, but my car has a black interior, I was wondering how well they take dye and how well it holds up, since I would like it black
p.s., its an auto console, but I also have a line on a brand new universal megashifter (in the box), cheap, so I was planning on modifying the auto console plate to take the megashifter

autozone sells paint that is intended for plastics , not the krylon fusion , but that might work well too. I painted mine over a year ago and it has one scratch in it now from my 5 point harness buckle , otherwise it still looks great.

I did exactly what you are speaking of. First, I cleaned the surface of the entire console, inside and out with alchohol. After letting it air dry, I went with some sandpaper to rough up any spots that were too smooth. Then another cleaning with alchohol.
I then followed up with a coat of Black paint (the stuff that's meant for vinyl). I let this dry *in the sun* for a couple hours. Came back and gave it another coat. I did this coat and bake process about 4 or 5 times (light coats). None of the console has scratched yet except for the plastic pushbutton (which is in constant contact with people's fingers). And actually, it'd be a nice tough to leave that grey and make the rest black.

I just painted my camaro interior,Used Dupli-Color Vinyl&Fabric Color.( get at Wal-mart in automotive section)
Here is a site about it http://www.duplicolor.com/solutions/tips.html.
Also recommend going to an automotive paint store and getting some plastic prep.
