another gauge cluster question.

OK, A few weeks ago i put in some white faced gauges......and i put the needles back to where i marked them before i took them off. Now the gauges are not reading as they were. My votomoeter doesnt work at all, my rpms are alittle bit off. My gas gauge is a hair off, and my temp gauge does not work. I dont understand it. Do they need to be recalibrated? IF so how much would it cost to have a mechanic do it?

Also, where can I get new needles?

THanks ahead of time

Go back and check that none of your overlays is rubbing on the center of the needles... it doesn't take much pressure to stop a needle. Most of the time if you tap on them and they work that's the easy way to tell. Also make sure you didn't accidently bend any, that's pretty easy to do then the needle center rubs on the face.

The Needles themselves don't have anything to do the with guage it's the wire they slide on.

so what you're saying is that I do not need to have them calibrated again? I will check when I have some more time. Thanks for the info.

oh yeah, where can I get new needles? I did chip part of the round black pice so I thought I would just replace all of the needles anyway.

I'll look up GM part number for you later. I have the Iroc parts cd. Yeah, basically you just have to go back and check them all. When I did mine it was a little off on the tach so I just spun it with my finger with the needle still attached.... by a little I mean I was hitting my 5k rev limit at 3k on the tach ;-). I moved the needle till I felt some tension then went near the same distance I need'd to move the needle to correct it. The only way I can see how to get them back in synco is to hook up a computer to the link under the dash and pull data off the computer. From that you could set most of the guages again... To my best knowledge ECM doesn't track how full the Gas tank is.

Course you could manually check all the guages with a different one but that's no fun at all.

Another thing you might think about doing is removing all the stock lights on the back of cluster. I did that and rolled all the covers off them. They had orange cover and reinstalled the bulbs again. This made my white faces look a nicer during the night.

that's how I did mine. Course I recommend you research it some more. You shouldn't be the only one with this problem.

I made mine. There paper thin (literally). But hey I didn't want to spend a lot of cash cause I want to do phantoms eventually.

I tried looking up the needles I don't think GM assigned a part number to them. If they did I didn't show it on the cd that I could find.

Autometer phantoms. Pretty much stylish white faced gauge, some silver lettering on them, with a flat black ring.

I have 2 phantoms on the a pillar. One's trannie temp the other is a/f ratio, both are the 2 1/16" (small ones). The rest are the homemade overlays I made.
