paint with airbrush

somehow my brother came across the crazy idea that he's gonna paint his car using my mom's airbrush. i wouldn't think this would work, but he's convinced it will. from what i've read, my 6hp compressor is probably not even air, so i just don't see how my mom's little airbrush would work. i know he doesn't care if it looks like a $4000 paint job, but is it possible for this to make even a halfway decent job?

i'm trying to talk him into buying a real paint gun, but he doesn't want to spend a lot on a gun. i was looking on ebay, and i found this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...397403783&rd=1 from what i've heard, devilbiss has a good reputation. would this be a decent starter gun?

how many times you gonna use it or paint something? One of them cheap $40-50 hvlp guns in your flow range will work well for a while. if you want a gun to last years and do $10,000 paint job quality you gotta lay out some cash on a gun or buy used.

But them "cheap" guns work well when new if it has good adjustments and flow rating.

that's what i said, but he's a cheap bastard and doesn't want to pay a few hundred bucks for a real gun. would the gun in the auction i posted be good enough for a decent paint job? probably only use it to paint 1 or 2 vehicles.

well as for painting the car with an airbrush you might as well just spray can it and call it good becuse that will be better quality than trying to paint the whole thing with a paintbrush it would be like taking a black sharpie and going over every square inch of the car (doesnt sound like much fun) but the gun you posted is a great gun i have allmost the same exact gun its allso a finishline and yes devillbliss is know world wide for quality so i would say go for the gun but if your only doing one car and you dont really care about having the best texture ect then just grab a cheep 30 40 dollor hlvp from lowes i use one of them for primmer and it doesnt work too bad just my 2cent worth
