got a question about door handles

my handle on the inside of my car broke the other day. i took apart the door and noticed that the handle is riveted to the door frame on the inside. if i drill it out, would a nut and bolt be good enough to put back in there to hold it? or should i rivet it again?
thanks for any help.

I'd use rivets, but either way should work fine. Just be sure the bolt isn't too long, or it will hit/scratch the glass when the window is down.

yes use hardware, screws or bolts whatever fits tightest and still s able to pass through in order to avoid possibility of side slop after its blted or screwed on

the gm trucks ones are screwed to the doorskins with three screws, they been doing that since way back when since at least 63 i know, they never break or come loose or anything

rivets are a PIA and cheap and weaker anyways, especially if are aluminum stem ones in which i think is what is used on the cars

so..

well i got it fixed. i used nuts and bolts instead of rivets. it seems stronger already. hopefully it will last a long time. lol. it was a pain tryin to get the panel off cuz one bolt holding the arm rest on was a pain in the butt.

Did you use some lock tite on that bolt? I used small (4mm?) allen head bolt and a wing nut, i couldn't get my hand back there and hold a regular one. Put some red locktite on it, that was over a year ago. Haven't had a problem with it coming loose or anything yet.

i used a normal bolt with a nylon but. i was able to get back there and tighten it. if it comes loose its a easy enough fix.
