My back seats don't serve a purpose, atleast not for passengers. I am going to take them out and place something like a sub-box or mounting station or something back their. What did you do with yours ?

I keep my backpack back there. But back in the day they had a really good purpose when i was in HS. Took 6 girls i believe to practice all of them were in the back seat me and my friend were up front. The goold ol days. Also made a good seat for dates as well. :lala: :lala:

Take em out, you'll get a few more cubic feet of cargo space, thats what I did. Get two pieces of carpet to cover the mounting tabs holes and you're set.

Depending how ambitious your are in you interior quest, when you buy a new carpet kit YOU have to cut in all the bolt holes and accessory stuff. I originally wanted to keep the back seat, but I could'nt get my car into the chasis shop soon enough to have the rear seat bars bent to hug the ceiling/hatch to go over the seats, so I took them out. The new carpet kit I installed completely covers up that area so no metal shows anywhere.

I'd like to make it into useful space, mounting brackets for something back their (mainly a computer, and sub-box) ... I had hoped that someone else had taken up a similar endeavor. Nitrous is unlike me right now.

I am taking mine out. As you some others said. serves no purpose (except for the guy who had 6 girls back there. :hail: :hail: ). and is extra weight.

And if you remove it, legally it become cargo area which means you can relocate the battery back there and still be good for racing.

VILeninDM... It's not that simple when it comes to batteries.

To be legal with NHRA, IHRA, NMCA, ect ect you will have to use a fully sealed and vented out of the car poly box (moroso blue box)

3/8" hold down bolts, no J bolts, tops must be welded together, and the bolts must go through the frame, not the floor pan

In unibody cars you have to weld 1/4" thick stock to the frame rails, then bolt your battery hold downs through the stock.

Also if battery is anywhere other than stock placement you have to have a rear mounted battery cut off switch that can kill all voltage flow and kill engine

Hey night rider, thanks for the info. I was planning to do something like this, but right now don't even have an engine, so I didn't look into details yet. I just remembered other threads on here where people done similar things to remove some of the weight from the front end.

I got rid of the seats the first week I had the car and built a custom speaker box with two 10 in. J L. subs and I have two 2 channel amps built on top of box. The speakers are facing towards the back of the front seats. I also have a box built on Top of that box that holds to 12 in. JL audios faceing trods the back window I have a custom amp rack built with the tee top bags would be to see amp rack cases a 2 channel amp and a four channel amp. And finally I have an another box in the back back that holds to more JL audios. I guess some what of a fanatic when it comes stereo systems. The four channel amp is for the custom door speaker boxes. The biggest downfall about my system is that my 4, 12 in. JL's are muffled by my custom notch back. But I think the sacrifices worth it for the look of the notch.

wow, those things are pretty slick..

this is pretty much how my rear seat area is.. don't mind the mismatched interior, I'm in the middle of a med. beechwood->black swap. I ditched the seatback bc I felt these pillows offer a couple of extra inches of leg room (in our case, thats a significant improvement).

Hehe the one in my sig current has nothing!! hahah no back seats, no front seats, total ghetto style hahaha. The green machine is holding up, supprisingly it didnt blow up yet. I was out drifting with it this past weekend, got some alright video. I'm getting ready to do suspension/steering next, gonna do it all at one time.

Got all mine. No one ever rides back there...torture...got tools and my bag for work! Actually when i was fixing up the interior I left the backseats out and ended up sitting back there in the holes while working on the speakers...they are way more comfy then the backseats. Alot more room too. If I get a toy 3rd gen that I don't plan to show I might just pad the area under the carpet, but leave the seats out. Problem is moer carpet kits are 2 pieces and the front and rear piece come together there!

I still have mine. Allthough, I remember a story about a guy who removed the concaved seat portion(where your butt sits). He boxed the area in sheet metal. His goal was to make a spot under the car for dual mufflers. Any verification of this being done before??

Mine are still in. I drive alot with my friends so it gets used offten. The back seat is really not all that bad, my best friend Jeff is 6'3" and sits back there with no problem.

mine are all out including the front ones and the carpet and the dash and steering wheel hell I have nothing inside other that the shifter, and emergency brake.

Yea, I mean how short are you? or the person riding in the passenger seat. Because if a passenger (especially 6'3'') can sit back there comfortably... someone must be laying on your dash waving at the cops going by!!

Im looking to take them out and do a fiberglass mold so it looks natural with the car (not as if seats or something should have been there)....Im currently going over prices for the job and ttl weight. Ill mount some speakers and amps in it as well

yea if you were to use plywood for the box like most are made from, it'll be really heavy.,...thats why I was thinkin about going with fiberglass...Crazy3rdgen thats exactly what I want to do, except the two subs in your pic look a lil cheap to me

If you are talking about the covers on ebay, then yes, I would imagine they are much lighter than the seats/belts, etc. If you have shoulder belts you can purchase panels from an early third gen and cover up the hole for the belt and make it look stock. This is what I plan on doing. I am really glad I saw this thread with the covers, I just wish the carpet was a perfect match.

and like redraif said, it is actually moe comfortable to ride back there with them out, more room and a better position
my best friend that almost always gets stuck back there cause my girl is in the pass seat wont let me put them back in , and ive ridden back there to, it really is better

You could do what I did and install your stereo amps into the back seat. To show off the amps, fold down the seat, same to tune the gains and para-eq (if you've got one). Fold it back up and everything is stealthy clean. Never had a problem with overheating but I don't use the stereo on high nore do I believe in cheap amps. My moto; Do it yourself, do it once, do it right.
