I've been doing a little research on the availablity of SMC (plastic/fiberglass) hoods. It seems that everyone has a little different version of when they were available, on what models and when the Camaros stopped using them. I think the years we are concerned with is the '82- '84 model years. Also, it appears that only the Z/28's were an issue.

How about a little survey? I haven't found a survey on this subject. Let me know if there is one so we don't have to invent the wheel again.

1. Year of Camaro
2. What type of hood is on your car. SMC or sheet metal.
3. What year and month (if possible) was the car was built or delivered.
4. Type of car. (Z/28, carb or CFI, L69)
5. Do you know for a fact the hood is original?
6. Anything else you would like to add.

they came on the cfi cars and carb cars in 82 and 83

i had a 82 cfi hood and no problems with it coming apart and the car has been past 140mph


i added the hood and never checked the build date of the car i took it from

I also took a look at a 1983 Berlinetta two weeks ago with the LG4. That also had the sheet metal hood, and it looked original.

hi ,I got a Fiberglass, or SMC (sheet molded composite) which is a fiberglass like material.
for sale I live in Minnesota its in nice shape .for a fair amount mail me at aschulz61@yahoo.com its a 83 z-28 with no problems plates blocking the flap holes.hood without the functional hood flaps

1.1984 smc but is on 92 camaro rs now
2 i would say carb cuse there no flaps
3no issue been 120mph
