Can I wetsand a metallic?

I just got my bird painted a metallic red at Maaco. They painted OK, but lots of orange peel.

Can I wetsand a metallic paint? Should I use 1500 or 2000?

Is it single stage or base/clear? If it is base/clear, then it does not matter. If it is single stage you can still do it, but you might bite into metallic under the surface and cause it to be splotchy.

Just called em and he said it's a single-stage.

So I guess wetsanding is out. He said he wouldn't recommend me westanding it. Do you think I can improve the orange peel with my Makita rotary with a wool pad and cutting compound?

Nope, you're still in the same boat... If you use a heavy enough compound to cut the peel, you'll destroy the metallic suspended in the enamel.

how much is there? I did a chevelle it had a very little orange peel. I just wetsanded it real lightly. And buffet it. There is olny one spot that looks bad. But how i look at it if u wanna get rid of it the only way is to repaint it. So u might as well try it.
