How do you do door skins?

How do you do a door skin start to finish? Is there a way to reatach it without welding, like with the glue that I heard they use these days?

Thanks

JB Weld? I wouldnt. Most people just get a new door. Its a lot easier than cutting and welding. You'll also lose some structural integrity if you cut and weld I think. I'd just get a new door.

replacing a door skin should only be done with welding. I wouldn't trust glue. However this is a LONG and tedious process if you don't have the special crimping tool. It can be done though, look through the magazine racks every once in a while. Occasionally there is an article on doing door skins.

Good Luck finding a door skin. The aftermarket does'nt make it. I belive I got the last driver side one in the GM stock system.

you can get door skins for these cars, but it costs almost as much as a whole door.
And whoever mentioned fusor is right. most body shops repair with glue now days, its quicker and most of the time the same way the factory installed the skin to begin with.
If the door skin is replaced correctly you shouldnt lose any structural strength

a lot (most?) of new cars come new with door skins that are attached with adhesive.

My father just put a GM replacement door skin on the back door of a new Impala, and it uses adhesive to attach the skin to the door frame. The only place it's welded are two tack welds underneath the door post trim.

Yeah I called them when I was looking. Out of stock, notice they just had left side listed. They have run out and there are no more.
