So I've been blasting the underside of my car. Still have about half left and then the engine bay.

For breathing I just use dust masks as I am using black beauty and it is 99-100% charcoal which is not toxic. But what do you guys use for eye protection? I've tried several different types of goggles, a fresh air hood (from fresh air system) and a full face mask (from home depot).

Problem with goggles is that either they leave open holes and sand gets to my eyes in matter of seconds, or they don't have holes (like the ones they use in chemistry), but then they fog up in 15 seconds which makes them completely useless.

Fresh air hood and face mask both seemed to work for a little while, but after about 10-20 minutes of blasting, they get blasted by particles bouncing off the car so much, that they completely loose transparancy to a point that all I see is the outline of the car, but it is impossible to tell rust from paint or paint from bare metal.

Has anyone tried anything else I haven't thought off? At thils point I already destroyed the fresh air mask ($45) and a face mask ($15). I really don't want to have to keep buying them.

I thought black beauty was copper slag which is considerably harder than charcoal or coal slag. Good set of glass goggles with a face shield in front usually works. There are ways to keep the goggles from fogging up too, chem wipes, spit, etc.

I have a welding mask with a clear lense instead of a darkened lense. Taped to the mask is a towel that covers my neck and shoulders.

When I'm done blasting, I usually still manage to have sand in my toes, in the crack of my ***, in my hair, ears and even my beard, but so far, I haven't gotten any in my eyes.

maybe black beauty is a brand that makes more than one type of media, but I looked on side of the bag and it said "99-100% charcoal, non-toxic, treat as mild dust irritant"

I am trying to use the face mask with goggles that have more vents so they don't fog up. Problem with face mask is that when I am lying under the car, a lot of the times blasting surface ends up being too close too it and eventually the surface of the mask gets blasted so much that it looses 50% transparancy.

your blasting no matter what you put over your face its gonna loose transparancy. that is why they make tear off for the freah air hoods. cheaper to rip on off than destroy a mask... i would go that route and its a better protection for your lungs than just a paper mask.
