Pics of my new steering wheel
I know this has been done but I didnt find alot of good pics of it so thought I'd share.
This is a wheel off a Fourth gen 97 Z28 and I just put it on my 88 RS. Took about 30 minutes to casually remove old and reinstall the new one.
I know some hate these wheels and some like them. I happen to like them. If this was my HotRod car I'd stick with a grant wheel because this weighs significantly more.

I guess I'm one of those guys that hates them. But good job with it!
And does your 88 have a 25th anniversary badge?

Yep I slapped a 25th badge on it because they look pretty cool and I had the regular little camaro badge. Hopefully you like those
I liked the stock 3 spoke wheel that was in the car but the top had a very large flap of folded over leather and the cost of redoing it would be insane and almost as insane buying a new one. In the end it would be same as everyone else too. Oh well they are both good though.

I've been thinking of doing this swap, too. Good to know that it is so quick and simple. Did you wire the airbag up, or just disconnect it?

Its just there for looks. Theres no way to wire an airbag in a non car.
Far as the badge, its not in an attempt to be a poser, its to look good. Looks way better with it and its not like I put an Iroc emblem. I like swapping stock style parts. My GT is sporting most of Cervini's 93 Cobra replica parts and when I got it, it had a 25th annv horse badge on the dash as well even though its an 87 but whos counting anyways?

Part of my learning to drive was done in a 93 Camaro so thats part of the reason why I'm partial to this style wheel.
Heres what it looked like about a month ago when I picked it up

I keep seeing those called Z28 or IROC wheels but I think they came in RS too because nothin else on the car was upgraded or changed. I know that other wheel with the big rectangle in middle is the most awful looking thing I've ever seen though(no offense to those that might like them )

I didn't realize your car was a pre-airbag model, so please excuse my dumb question. When did thirdgens start coming standard with bags, anyway, '91?

1990.
Good job on the steering wheel. But you know what would make your interior look even better? A damp cloth. Get rid of that dust around the handle ( it looks almost brown and yellow ) and around the gear indicator.
If I had a Z28 I would get one from a Cavalier Z24. That was probably the meatiest steering wheel I ever had, and a comfortable one too.

Actually I already cleaned the whole interior so most of that look is from the lighting except the last picture of course which was a disaster. I do need a better shifter handle as the leather is pretty worn and ugly and a shifter plate because one corner is broken off.
I did see the Z24 wheel on ebay several times and it did look kinda nice but I got this for the same price or better than most of those and it says camaro
On another note I just sold my Lincoln DD and now I can go ahead and get a nice CD player and speaks for the cam which will take over beater duties

That install looks great. But another airbag wheel that would look good,IMHO but I'm biased since I have a '95 Jimmy-mine is black leather GMC embossed in it,is the 2nd gen S-Blazer like in the attached pic.

Not bad, another pretty nice one I like is the one in my dad's 04 Avalanche. Its pretty nice too. Love the beefy leather wrapped wheels the newer cars have been getting. My Linc had a skinny leather wrap dealie from back in the day that was like the same diameter as the wheel I just pulled off. Felt much better after I wrapped it with a wheelskins cover.

Those who simply got rid of the airbag wheel, did you get the Safety light or whatever? ANd did you do anything to turn that light off? Thanks

I was getting ready to post a pic of that same steering wheel as a possible one for our cars. I have it in my 95 Tahoe and it is actually quite comfortable.

About the light, I hear of people on the boards, removing the bulb, but that seems to be a PITA, IMO. What I did was locate the DERM under the passenger side dash, and I clipped the pink/blk wire from it. The bulb will go out. Its a good idea to check a Helms manual to be positive what your wire color is. I do know some Camaros, and F/Bs are the same color, but you never know.

Anyone know if putting a forth gen airbag in a third gen that has an air bag already is plug and play or is the wiring not compatable? Or can it be spliced together to work? (corectally that is).
