Get a new friekin fender!! That is not fixable, especially not with tons of filler. Third gen NEW fenders are under $100 for a repro, and they fit fine (or get a $25 junkyard fender, they are everywhere). That is a throw away fender, if ever I have seen one. Oh man I am sorry I looked at that pic

No wonder 3rd gens have the "beater" reputation. LOL. That car needs a hood, nose, and fender. From a U pull it junkyard that will cost less than $100 (I've done it).

I think he could get away with that hood, but definitely needs a new nose and fender.

I don't know, that hood is really bent, not just in the front either, it will never shut right. The hoods are so thin on these cars, I just throw them out when they get dents. They are so cheap it is not worth trying to fix them. Hell I have a perfect condition 85-90 TA hood w/ louvers, I'd let it go cheap.

Lol use the old "I left my ID at home" thing and tell them that you are whatever age you need to be. I guess what you did will work. Definitely not the best option, but hey, whatever gets you through life.

Re: pics of my body work on the 84 bird:)

well the frame is bent in the front really bad, probably have to be cut off and replaced with a peice off another bird or just remove the inner bumper period temporarily, its whats pulling the nose too close for the hood to line up. so basically looks like i need to fix the part that sticks out and bolts to the front bumper and a new nose plus the metal along the top of the nose and a hood and i should be good. partof the light bracket is broken too but it still works fine but needs to be replaced if i can ever find one. these car are hard to find in boneyards where i live. heres pics

Re: pics of my body work on the 84 bird:)

well it getting there, had to cut the corner end of the inner bumper off, god i love swazallsthe thing was in the way of the fender. now im just trying to get the nose to fit as good as possible considering the shape its in till i can find a new one. the car looks nice now compared to before. once im done with this its on to sanding all my rust spots and flat black prime the entire car. the rest of the car is in good shape thank god. there is a dent in the front of the other fender but its fine for now, i will worry about it later. maybe grab the other 90 fender at the bone yard when i have more cash if its still there

The fender is a lot better, but it looks like the nose is hosed and will need to be replaced too. I had one of those noses in mint shape but threw it out when I converted my 83 to the 85-90 TA nose, rear bumper, and ground effects.

You will have to change the rear bumper, and add all of the ground effects, including metal body brackets, to use the 85+ TA nose. It was a big ordeal.

yeah but it would be worth it, the car i got my fender from was a v6 but it had whatever was on a 1990 and grounds on the fender nose end, and a kinda goofy lookn back bumper too that had weird lips on its edges
----------
if you look at my side pic you can see the metal trim to hook the grounds onto

Re: pics of my body work on the 84 bird:)

been sanding my rust spots and primered the fender and alot of the car today. im just using flat black primerand will leave it like that till i have a new nose and hood and the body kit i wantto make it klook lie a 85-89 ta i think. what is the differance between a ta and a gta? i will take and post some pics of the car tomorrow in its primered stae, its look alot better, but theres so much rust everywhere on the roof that im concerned, i didnt sand it al so i need to go back over it soon, maybe try that rust remover /converter spray. dont want a hole rusted in my roof a year or 2 later cus i was lazy. i think this car could be nice one day soon if i get a real job, lol!! i like restoring cars rather than getting a car someone else has restored or just maintained. im kinda falling in love with this car, at first i was just going to sell it soon as i got the title in my name, well i have had the title 2 weeks and its not for sale. i have save much worse mustangs so i can save a 3rd gen now too

Re: pics of my body work on the 84 bird:)

Wow, you are really putting an effort in to this but I don't think you are approaching the problem from the right direction.

Start by taking off the bumper cover, bumper, radiator, and both front fenders. Search for any wrinkles or distortions in the structural members. Straighten anything you find that is damaged. If what you find it too severe to straighten then cut it out and replace it with a piece from another car.

After the structural pieces and mounting points are back straight and even put the radiator and bumper back on and check things again. You will probably have to do a little bit of work to the bumper to make it right again. After those are in and looking good put a different bumper cover on the car. It might be possible to fix the on you have with heat, but it will take lots of work to come close to getting it right.

After the bumper cover is on put the fenders back on and start figuring out which pieces are out of shape or position. Try to get the fenders square with each other and the car. Then try to get the hood to line up between the fenders properly. It will take some measuring and a good eye to figure out what is right and what needs work.

Once you are done with an inside-out approach like this things will look right and, if you do good work, will be as good as new. As you are approaching things now the car will never look right. It will always look "tweaked" because the gaps won't line up, the headlight will be crooked, and the front end will appear uneven.

If you are just in this for a quick in & out, then just slap a new fender and bumper cover on the car, bondo the hood a little, paint with a very low gloss paint and sell. The car won't look right but it won't look right anyways if you don't get the non-cosmetic parts back in shape.

yeah be nice to have a bird that eats horses! lol... the only things that seem to own the mustang are usually ls1 swap cars. ls1=own you i have raced a few 350 camaros and won every time, just stock ones i think. i like having both kinds of cars cus i dont have to be one way or the other. i respect both makes as they are both great cars with potential to eat up most other cars out there.
yeah brbq paint, its high temp stuff, lol looks great, sorta a semi gloss black. looks good just need some more of it

im argreeing with dr. pepper... if u plan on keepin the car and dont want the front end looking like shortcuts have been taken to make a cheep fix after it gets painted i would try straightening that frame or cuttin the tweaked parts out and welding in new peices.. car will be good as new, the right way

Please, put that car out of its misery, send it to the junkyard.

I hate seeing ugly thirdgens driving around, they look like mullletmobiles and give the rest of us a bad repuation.

No offense to anyone who drives an ugly thirdgen or anyone with a mulllet.

I dunno I think hes doin a good job reviving the poor beast. I've seen many cars in better shape go to the crusher (which pisses me off) my poor camaro needs 2 fenders and a hood thanx to some 4legged deer.

Re: pics of my body work on the 84 bird:)

I think he's on the right track. Putting it out of it's misery at this stage is a waste of a good project car. Besides, whether or not it looks good doesn't mean that it will never roast the tires. Some people like the sleeper look.

If third gens have a bad reputation for looking like mulllet-mobiles, then the people that feel that way apparently don't like them no matter how they look. We all know how many sexy third gen f-bodies there are out there on the streets.

Let's hold the negative criticism at least until he says he's done with it. In the mean time, let's just see if there is any way we can help.

Of course we don't like them no matter how they look. I don't like trashed versions of any car. And the mu llet mobiles do give 3rd gens a bad name. The "average" 3rd gen has beat in doors, both sides, and cracked GFX. It is unusual to see a really clean one nowadays.
