I want these fenders...But I'd need new wheels. I'm not giving up my crosslace wheels, unless I can get 17" or 18" x 10"-13" ones. Those fenders look like they could SERIOUSLY swallow some tires, there aren't any wide 16" street tires. Only race compounds that are WIDE! There are the 295/50 BFGs, but the sidewall needs to be shorter, and the tread pattern is H rated-style, not the typical directional Z-rated style.
Weird, those headlights give it a mid-70s Monza look. That wide-body look was popular in the 70s, inspired by road racers. Eckler's made a body kit for C3 Corvettes that converted the pop-up headlights to fixed, with a plexiglass cover, as well as wide fender extensions.
I could get a Camaro widebody kit, but I don't really want the wide front fenders, and the rears would hafta be changed, because if the Camaro wrap around tail lights, so they'd need "filling". I'm no 'glass person.
Yeah, it looks ugly in the pics. But I am sure it would look alot better after all the body work and paint is done. Still not a big fan of that euro-super car look tho.

i thought about getting a firebird in the future and trying that.. but with shorter head lights so it wouldnt have to go so deep into the hood and then making a blacked out plexi glass cover i think it would look great on a black car.. but that just goes way to deep into the car to look good

I've seen a camaro with the wide-body kit but never a firebird. I too, like the wide-body road racing Rally-Car look, with the right stance it looks absolutely wicked! I would be very interested in a kit for a firebird...though I would want to keep the stock style aero-wing if possible rather than the high-rise that would probably come with it.

i would ask what that guy was thinking....but i know he wasnt. looks like dookie and has no functional purpose that i can see. i would say to bring it to the junk yard before wasting any more money on it but i cant think of a junk yard that would take it.
To everybody that is slamming the car & builder, keep 2 things in mind....
#1. Just because you can hide behind your screen name and your keyboard, there's no reason to post & slam them.
#2. My guess is, this car was built YEARS ago, back when the IMSA style was still a rage. Wide fenders, whale tail spoiler, etc. So, it was "in style" then. Probably before several of ya'll were even born, or were in Elementary School.
But mainly, because there's no point in posting something, just to slam the car or builder. There are several TGO members cars I don't like either. But it's HIS car, not mine. He can build it like HE wants!
I'm glad I realized long ago that following the trends will make you look like an idiot in 10 years or less. Sorry to say but that car's a collection of terrible. It doesn't help that there're no finished pics and the fit of the crap he's piled on it is nightmare awful. Sorry to bash someone but this is a site for Thirdgen enthusiasts and it seriously sucks to see them done up that way.
I think the worst thing about it is that the fender we can see is roughly 95% bondo by weight. There's nowhere where you can see the bumper cover bolt on to the body. That much bondo is just scary.
It was an idea though. I think it'd look better finished. I do like the widebody. Widebody kits are just bad @$$ in general.
I'd really love to see a finished widebody firebird. I'd love to incorporate some bulging fenders into my 'vert but I think it'd be almost impossible to do it while still following some of the stock lines.
they had a good idea goin', but the lights are too deep. it probably would look better with the paint, and whent its finished. i don't like it, but i give them credit for trying to do something different. the nose stickes too far out between the headlights.
Wow, I looked through those pictures on that link and I really dig the wide fender look, especially on the rear of the car. Now, if you could get an aero spoiler to fit rather than the whale-tale style, that would be cool.

i thinks its pretty cool in its own unique way. im sure it took a lot of hard work and after body work and some paint it'll look like a completely different car, which is obviously wat the owner wanted in the first place
Showcars has kind of a bad rap when it comes to their quality. If you decide to buy anything from them do some research on them first. The one thing they have going for them is that they are the only place to get some of these kind of parts so if you really want something you might be willing to put some extra work into straightening out some of their work.
only thing that worries me is that much bondo on a plastic bumper......it would probably look good after it got blended and sanded down and in primer......all body work looks like **** til primer......sorta looks like a funny car kinda theme to me
i was dangerously close to buying an f body a year ago.. it was a 86 firebird it was a 2,8 car swapped for a 4.3 carb with a z28 front and ground effects.... i aint gonna lie it looked sweet, in my opinion the camaro has the best front and the firebird the best rear so it was exactly what i was looking for!, but it needed tooo much bodywork
To each there own really. I sold off my Camaro to get the sleekness of the Firebird front end. To have that “sleekness” it required the popup headlights. I agree that I do not like the fact that they actually pop up, because at night the bodylines are just ruined because of it, thank god for the darkness. But it is obvious that I am willing to trade a bad nighttime show appearance for a better daytime one. <-- In my opinion of course.
I have seen people manage to make a Firebird with non-popup headlights but still maintain the originally look. Probably not legal, but they managed to do it.
But in my opinion, as all of this has been so far, I would not switch back to the Camaro style of headlights. If someday I decided I liked the Camaro front end better, I would sell my Firebird and buy a Camaro. Then if I wanted the Firebird rear, I would modify the Carmaro, because around here, Firebirds usually sell for a little bit more than the Camaros. So I could sell my Bird, buy a Camaro in equal shape and use the left over money for the conversion. Well, at least for part of the conversion.
In short, I don’t really like the way the car in the picture looks so far, but I reserve final judgment until the final outcome pictures.
although the firebird does look a lot sleeker, the camaro does have that signature look to it with the way the headlights are deep within the front. their both good looking in their own unique ways, its just up to the buyer. and going back to the main topic, i wanna see sum pics of when this project is done. i think it will look pretty cool
No, total F; just put a Camaro nose on a Firebird and you'll have a ******* Transmaro, I see them from time to time and it makes me die a little inside.
Your entitled to your opinion, but you don't have to express it here, or if you do, no need to use such words."Not to my likeing."...or something like that, would work just as well.
What a way to start off your membership here. What if somebody called YOUR car " stupid, ugly, retarded, a waste, etc, etc..."?
I guess I don't get it. If I'm entitled to my own opinion, why was it taken out of here? Why are others opinions still here? Others called it stupid, others mentioned puke. I just don't get it.
Yeah, its an old image & this is a six month old thread, but it was/is pretty cool of Stephen to put up something that tweaks the imagination & He's got a lot of good ideas/creativity.
Interesting body, but the nose is... off balance..IMHO.
Granted, the Bird's are very aerodynamic with the headlights down, & suck with 'em up (it shows with my night mileage), but it'd be better to leave well enough alone.
The whole Camaro + Firebird = Transmaro sheetmetal blending idea tho.... Just bad... I've seen a few dead on the side of the road w/ For Sale signs & a few in the junkyards.. it SCREAMS hacked. Im sorry, I know, I know, but compare it to taking a '70 Buick Skylark GS & putting a Chevelle SS nose on it. Just because it fits doesnt mean its a good idea... again JMHO

My original post even starts off with...."I came across this pic...". In other words....IT IS NOT MY CAR, I HAVE ZERO KNOWLEDGE OF IT. I simply FOUND the pic.
So, for those who liked "my" idea...It wasn't mine. It isn't mine. I simply FOUND the pic. I can't tell you SQUAT.
I've posted this picture several times, surprised none of you noticed it. I want these fenders also. That is probably the meanest Firebird i've seen, even if it is Lavender in color.

Notice it? It was my screen background after you posted it!
The site I got that pic (camaro headlighted firebird) from lists the IMSA style fenders for a Firebird, but no price. I guess they have been disconued, which had makes me wanna try to get at least the rear quarters for a Camaro, then just put in the Firebiard side marers & fill the notches in for the Camaro taillights. But then, I'd hafta get new wheels or have my rear ones widened.
