fiber glass hood and back hatch

i have a 92 camaro rs and im planing to do a whole sophing frame set up from cradle to rails, and im planning to also put a 440hp 350 in to it. My q is will changin my hood and rear hatch out to a fiber glass hood and rear hatch weaken my car. I was told that the rear hatch part of the body suport and that removing it and putting sophins rear hatch would weeken my cars body even with the sophing frame set up is this true?

Re: fiber glass hood and back hatch

i highly doubt that the hood or hatch have anything to do with structural integrity i say go for it

Re: fiber glass hood and back hatch

The structural integrity of the unibody is within the vehicles main structure itself. The hood and rear hatch should not affect integrity as they are connected only with latches and hinges. Frame integrity will be comprimised mostly when cutting or modifying the vehicles main body, frame rails or k member. When using fiberglass components on a unibody vehicle it is important to note that because the vehicle is subject to higher torsional flex and therefore it is important to properly align such fragile body compenents to resist cracking or bending.
