New owner to be- questions

Hi everybody!!

I will be acquiring a 1989 Firebird Formula 350 really soon, and I am quite excited.

It has a badly smashed up front left fender, and it also has the hood from a Trans Am even though it's a Formula. It also has some really stupid-looking aftermarket spoiler that looks like it belongs on a Honda rather than a Firebird.

Anyway, I was wondering if you know of any good sites for getting these parts cheap? I am 18 and just started college and am currently unemployed, so money is a factor lol.

Thanks!

Welcome to the club.
For body parts you can do one of four things.
Check ebay, craigslist, junkyards, and then search for firebird fenders or hoods online.

If don’t give exact names because I have found over time that one place that sells them at a good price 1 month, may not have the best price the next.
Your best bet would be to do a search on the net for Firebird Fenders.

Ebay, Craigslist and Junkyards are also an option, but take care, because some people just do body work to a rusted out one and resell it.

A word to the wise for people new to 3rd Gens.
Never trust the seller.

80% 350 third gens being sold are really 305 3rd gens.
People seem to have no problem lying about what size engines are in these cars.

Double check the 8th digit of the VIN code, I believe it is an 8 for a 350 in that year if it were a factory 350.
If they say its been swapped out later for a 350, and they don’t have proof, just assume it’s a 305 when you decide to by the car or not. That way if you find out later that it is not, then you won’t be disappointed.

Good luck on your purchase, let us know more about it when you get it.

Re: New owner to be- questions

Great! Thanks

Wow. I did not know that. It has the "Formula 350" stickers on the side, so I assumed that it was a 350. I would like to think that he didn't go out of his way to disguise a 305 as a 350, but I will double check the VIN anyway just to be safe. Thanks!

Depending on where you live, self service pull your own parts wrecking yards are by far the best and cheapest places to harvest select used parts. Otherwise, visit the classified boards on this site. Both sponsers and private sales can be found here. And, since you have a formy I'll pass this link on to you. Good luck http://www.tacreationsusa.com
