painters please chime in

i just painted my camaro about a month ago, has been inside ever since. was putting the hatch on today, had it all done, shocks on ect. stepped back with the hatch open to check it out, some how it shattered and fell down and strtched the living **** out of bolth my quarters and b-pilars. deep sratches, deepley into the filler and primer underneath. my question is that if i have to feather everything ut and flatten it all out do i have to repaint the whole pannel or will i be able to just touch up over them

If you have a buffer and compound, you should be able to just spot spray it.

feather em out and prime the area's with a filler primer. wetsand this and then repaint, Id just blend the area's in too. if your not sure what this is just lemme know and Ill explain it.

as for why the hatch shattered- Ive heard stories of these hatches shattering due to the flexibility of these cars. (just people jacking them up wrong and so on)

Re: painters please chime in

well to blend you want to blend the base coat. so heres what I do.
1. sand around the repair area around 6-8 inches with 400 grit.
2. on the first coat of base, cover the repair area
3. on the second coat, go around 2 inches into the spot you sanded with 400
4. third coat, go 2 more inches into the 400 grit area.
5. clear both the repair area and the 400 grit area with the same method as the base, and with the clear you want to flick your wrist towards the end of the area so less paint gets on the sides then in the middle.
if this is executed correctly you won't have any sharp ridges or lines. and Im pretty sure I did a horrible job explaining it but its really common sense once you get into it.

It would help if we knew what kind of paint you used the first time you painted it and wether or not it is a metallic color. Did you use a clearcoat before? If the glass went thru the color coat and into the primer you have to sand it smooth and start over. Because it's on both pillars and quarters it would be an easy redo if you have T-tops ... a little more work if you have to paint the roof again. Ideally you used a colorcoat/clearcoat system, it's a solid color (not metallic), you have a little of the basecoat leftover and you have a T-top car. Otherwise ... well ... it'll be a little more work.

Re: painters please chime in

its ppg bc/cc system. the color ia avenger blue pearl mixed with colbalt blue metallic. really a sweet color but expensive hell. not enough paint let over to repaint so i will have to buy more. once it got all of the glass cleaned up it really is worse than first thought. beside some deep scratches , their are rock chips all over. their are hundreds of little white dots all over the sides, so it will have to most likely be repainted. glad i made it a t-top car makes it easier i guess. so im guessing that i have to feather out the really big stuff, and scuff the rest of the panel and reshoot the quarters and stuff. think im gonna wait till i get the car all put back together, motor and trans and stuff i mean, so when i scratch the hell out of the front i can repaint that to.

i dont know whose cheerios i pissed in but if **** can happen to this car it will
