Re: T-Top Mod

Why not just cut out a piece of plastic or steel and glue/epoxy it underneath the drip rail to stiffen it? Mine sag a bit but don't interfer with the door. Guess I might try this sometime.

Re: T-Top Mod

I don't know... Sounds like it could get hard though. It may effect closing the door if it's not thin enough. Sounds very interesting though... let me know if you try it out

I think Chevy's right, though. I'll just call them up and see what the deal is.

Definitely sounds like a good idea, but remember, as time goes by, the rubber or plastic begins to sag (as most already have) because of the force of gravity. If you add more weight, then you may further more sag the drip rail. I agree though as a temporary fix.

Re: T-Top Mod

I think I found the whole set of the t-top weather strip including the drip rails. I need for someone to veriefy the picture below to know whether or not the drip rail is included in this set.

Wish I could afford a T-Top set, rubber or plastic either one -_-'

When I get my income tax, I'll see if I can't order from NewGM. I'll post back here with pics and a product report ASAP

Re: T-Top Mod

DOes this strip you guys are talking about also seal the glass to the t-top frame? I've looked under the edge of mine and water is getting into the t-top and then dripping on me. If this would fix both problems, since mine also has the unsightly drooping rails, I would certainly grab some new ones and replace them. But on my 91 I have glass and when I tried to take them apart I thought that I found that they were glued in place, however I can't really remember for sure though.

Re: T-Top Mod

Hm? It seems to me there might be a market for a supply of used plastic drip rails.

There are always several 3rd gens passing through the local upullit's, most are T-tops and many of those are late model versions now days.

They are the type of item that the yard charges practicaly nothing for so it's just a matter of spending the time and effort to remove them intact.

I'll be visiting a yard or two this weekend so PM me if you are interested.

You have to take off the outer trim panel and handle, and there will be 2 screws inside of (as in "towards the center of the car" ) the drip rails and weatherstrip mentioned above. Loosen the screws, reposition the weatherstrip so that it lightly presses against the body strip, and tighten the screw before working on the other end. Later models don't have this adjustment as the weatherstrip is GLUED to the drip rail deflector thing, which, as some are thinking of above, will require replacement of the weatherstrip rubber if removal is attempted (after all this time, anyways). There is also a body adjustment at the pin receivers. Remove the trim, loosen 2 screws, and move the receiver as needed.

There is more information out there... Some is even available for Fieros. As here: http://www.fierottop.com/waterleak/ This site is dedicated to the Fiero, but the same principles apply as we have the same problems.
Nope, 2 different problems. Mine used to do the same, untill I followed Maverick's advice above. Now I just have the unsightly wharped rails...

If I'm correct, I think this would be what you need:

If you can find any and want to sell them count me in. I'd even take a decent set of rubber ones. If properly maintained/modified, the rubber ones will last forever, unfortunatley the last owner of my car didnt know that...

And how does one make them last forever? Provided that I can only get ahold of a rubber pair, how do I make them last?

Re: T-Top Mod

There are silicone based coatings for rubber pieces like weather stripping and seals, it'll help prevent the parts from drying out and pitting or cracking. The rubber pieces proabably sag because the rubber is crumbling on a scale thats hard to see.

I'll keep an eye out for good rubber ones too, be sure to PM me cause I'll be giving first dibs to first commers going by the order I recieve PM's. Richard already has dibs on a set of plastic ones

Ah, thank you. Where can I buy that kinda of stuff, Nappa or Advanced?
I'm doubtfull of there being any perfect rubber rails in a yard, though. I doubt the... err, yardsmen[?] would take time to treat all the rubber on all their cars

Why not cut a piece of plastic in the right shape and size,, disasamble the part and replace the rubber with the plastic and bolt it back in place !!!!!!

Re: T-Top Mod

Also, I fixed a small dip towards the frontside of my hard plastic drip rail. Heres what I did. I ran hot scorching facet water over the bended section. Then after about 40 seconds, I removed the rail and bended it back to it shape while with my elbow switch to cold water. Once cold, put the section under the cold water ehile still holding it's shape. I repeated this 2 times and it worked.

That's just the left side.
GM Parts Direct http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ has them listed for quite a bit less, but you'll need to go through the checkout process to see if they're available.

10198353 Left lists for $37.30
10198352 Right lists for $26.89

I just might have to get myself a set each for my 92 and my 89.

Re: T-Top Mod

No, i don't think so. I took that from the drill down menu starting with roof parts for the year car I was looking at. In may case it was 1992 Camaro.

-1992 Camaro
-Roof
-Glass and Hardware
-Seal Strip (this is the piece) - Once you get there, you have the option to view the illustration.

Prior to 1990, you're looking at classic vehicles. Same drill down menu, except you're looking at the "Body Parts" catalog.

Ohh. I think you can go to a GM dealer and request a diagram of a general part. I asked them if they had a list of the emissions system and they gave me a picture of the whole emissions including pictures and where they sould go, just like the t-top picture you provided.

Re: T-Top Mod

I tried to go through the order process, and during the checkout, I received this message: "These part numbers were not found in our database: 101983. The part numbers you seek have either changed to a new part number or no longer available from GM. Please email customerservice@GmPartsDirect.com to verify the correct part numbers needed."

The part number for the right side "strip seal" (10198352) went through with no problem, the left side part (10198353) gave me the message. I e-mailed to see what the status is, but I'm sure the part is discontinued. I am still waiting for reply.

You can access all those same images right here on your home computer. Go to www.compnine.com and select your year, make, and model, and then you'll get various categories. Under those categories you'll find more sub-categories. The part numbers for some parts are listed, but the prices are GM list, you can get them for the same price at any GM dealer. They also list some parts that are discontinued too, but the images are there.

It sure is. But I do have one issue. Inside my steering column, there is a small tube that the horn spring loded piece goes into. Well on mine the tube broke inside the steering wheel so now I cant put in my horn button because there is no tube for the horn spring locked tube to latch onto. So there is no part available for it. Sucks. Ill take a picture later so that you can see what Im talking about.

I'm not sure of the years but my 91 bird had the lexan, and my 89 has glass. Personally stay away from lexan, there pretty much crap after a few years. I swapped mine out from my 91 for glass ones because the lexan was all spiderweb crackked looking from the sun, and being old, although the lexan is much lighter, so it saves a bit of wieght.

Re: T-Top Mod

I just ordered the pieces from newgmparts.com. As soon as they come in I will update and post detailed pics. The total with shipping to Houston was 87.92. They let me complete the checkout so I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep everyone posted. Oh and my car is an 84 but I ordered the 92 just to see if the hard plastic ones come in but I think the new updated design is hard plastic from 82 to 92. I don't think there is two different part numbers. Hope this helps.

I agree. Let us know how it looks. There is a lot of people who say that they will get back at us but they never do. They just come for help. When they get what they need, they abandon the family (thirdgen.org members).

Ok, so I am looking for a part and need some clarification please. I have posted a picture of what I need. Are these the drip rails that all of you are talking about?

Picture is too small to verify. If its the plastic or rubber that hangs over the window when raised all the way up, then yes. Follow this link and checkout post #1. Is this the same part that youre refering too?
