What's the best way to get a flat Harwood hoodscoop (fiberglass) attached to a 3rd gen hood without the fiberglass delaminating over time? I used Marinetex to bond it down, after I hade relief cut the back every 3/4 inch from font to back. Also used 24 rivets. It LOOKS great, untilyou notice the cracks where the fiberglass is starting to seperate and pull up around the outside edge of the scoop. I had the guy over at the Corvette shop nearby do the filling in and smoothin out with some high-dollar fibergalss gel and mesh, but it still split.

Considering I didn't have to pay for it, just move a few cars around with my forklift, I can't complain but just so much. Still, you would think that a guy who restores Vettes for a living would know a little about fiberglass......

Well, is it just the fiberglass cracking off the metal? If so I don't know if there's much you can do about that. The metal hood is going to bend and flex more than the fiberglass on it, therefore it will constantly crack and break apart. About the only two things to do are 1) keep filling/painting it or 2) replace the hood with a fiberglass hood as well.

dont insult the guy, a metal to fiberglass connection will eventually crack, its inevitable. Hes just doing his best with what you gave him.

that being said, there isnt much you can do, eventually it will crack again and again. The only way to minimize cracking is to extend the glass out further from the scoop and onto the hood over a larger area, it will allow more room to flex. It also adds weight and mass to the hood, and may still crack. Advise, save your money and get a completely fiberglass hood, or a production hood of whatever style you prefeer

well, there are some prices that you just have to pay, like paint andbondo in exchange for looking cool. No one offers that scoop anymore, and I am afraid to try to remove it for fear of destroying it in the process. Anything worth having is worth the effort I guess.
