How hard is it to go from not having a t-top to put a T-top in i dont have t-tops and i would love to have them on my T/A but i am not going to go out and buy another car since i just got mine painted is it posible or no if it is i would like to know how please help me out

It's easier to just say no at this point. If you want ttops, buy a car with them. The thirdgen roof is not designed like the 4th gens, so just cutting in the tops is not as easy.

Transam, I did it to mine but wouldn't recommend anyone without experience trying it. I actually put it together on the inside at the rear factory points. Everything else had to be sleeved and windows cut in to access the inner supports to weld properly. There's a lot of structural components involved. Also the floor area is stronger on a T-top car for support. I don't know all the technical part of it. But I know it would be easy to put together very unsafe. Thank you spell check LOL

I'm with Scott. It'll be cheaper to sell your car and buy one with T-tops.

I agree as well. The only reason I did it was couldn't find decent one at good price. Had a 84 Z with a lot of miles but decent car. Woman pulled out in front of me about 50 feet in front of me running 50+. Car was toast so I kept it, pulled the drivetrain, cut the roof off and found a decent 88 with a blew up V6. Over a year later and a lot of work I finally got to drive it. Built cars for others over the years but never something nice for myself.

It wasn't that bad to do. though if you do it you will have to do a repaint of the car. read my thread, its step by step with full pictures. then decide for yourself. i will add you better know how to weld

There is no point in doing this conversion since you would pretty much have to get it painted again anyway...could be spotted but ya know....

Technically the right way is to cut the whole roof off and cut one off a t-top car then put it on yours. If you were to try to just cut two indentations in the roof for the tops it would be more work then swapping roofs....and it might not even work.

That wont work. The only way is a total roof swap. You are correct in your notion that cutting them in wont work. I suppose it can be done but its a hell of alot more work than just swapping roofs, plus there is alot more at risk. Roof support, and having all you lines straight. If a roof is swaped you have all the bracing you need already in the roof.

I did my top fairly quick. It was not hard to top it. It is everything else that sucks. It is a full body job do over, there will be no blending paint back in, it means totally gutting your car. Topping it is easy, its everything else that sucks. If you dont know how to weld, do body work, or paint a car ready to dish out some serious coin. I did it because every one told me not to. Not trying to prevent you from doing this by any means, I spent time to show guys how to do it and its all in the thread, but be warned it takes some time and money.

T-Tops suck anyway... hehehheeh Nah, I do love 'em, but I went to take my daughter to the baby sitter yesterday morning and we both sat in wet seats as I had left the car outside the night before and the rain leaked in....
