Re: Plastic Dashpad?
under the pad at the front (closest to you) is the same as all the other small hex head hardware in the car for the plastic trim. The far (windshield) ones are approx 1.5-2" long and are the same thread as the other interior trim. The clasps that they go into will probably accept anything close as they are basically speed nuts that are fixed to the sheetmetal where the cowl, windshield and firewall meet. any junkyard camaro or firebird will net you a ton of extra hardware and it is interchangeable.
If you have Lowe's up there they have a few drawers ofautomotive trim hardware next to the other hardware. I have used some and it works pretty good.

Re: Plastic Dashpad?
Ok guys this has gotten blown way out of proportion, first off the original topic was on how a plastic dash cap fits and how they work. Beyond that yes there is a right way and a wrong way to fix these cars, but my opinion is anything that can be done can be undone. First off Mathius I have read through a lot of your comments on this thread and many others and well you do have some really good IDEAS most of what I have seen you have no way to back it up (pics, personal experience, etc) so as I said in an earlier post "if you can't prove what you're saying to work don't suggest it until you know", also do you go out of your way to sound like an ***? I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and that's why I have read through all of your posts completely well being level headed, you have a lot of good info but you are so rude that most people don't care what you have to say.
If I'm rude it's because I've been listening to the same rude, judgmental, bullsh*t for the last 10 years+ on this site and I'm tired of it. The behavior of the people on this site and clearly the moderators is appalling. This used to be a tech oriented site for third gen ENTHUSIASTS. Now it's become a stock **** laden puke-fest peppered with the word Rice, and if that doesn't describe my disgust, I could go on further.
Quite frankly Scott's car bores the **** out of me because it's the same as every other stock third gen I've seen since I was 2 years old, no matter how clean or in nice shape it is.
Regardless, I don't care if he chooses to repair his dash with silly puddy or solid gold, that doesn't give him the ok to trash someone else who doesn't agree with his stuffy, yuppy, idea of what's right and wrong.

Mathius you need to chill and 10+ years. I don't think so.... you started in 02 8 years. And you need to leave no one was asking you for pictures. Your being a dick if you have that big of a problem take it out on your car how about that. Go fix a whole in the wall or in your head?? Thanks Mathius.

Re: Plastic Dashpad?
If someone could manufacture these things at a reasonable price they would always have customers.they could make a killing.

Re: Plastic Dashpad?
Yea they really do remanufacture the plastic caps not our orignal looking Dash pads. I bet you someone has a factory of like 1000. They just don't dissapper someone has those dashes around. If the guy sold them 100 a piece they would make lots of money.

Re: Plastic Dashpad?
I don't owe you any pics. I'm taking my own personal time to give you ways things can get done. Take it or leave it. I don't have to answer to you on my experience. I've stated MANY times here that I got rid of my thirdgen back around '01. If you want my credentials go back and research my posts on YOUR time, not mine and see how my auto experience progressed over the years, and read some of the near tech articles I've posted on various parts of the third gen chassis.

2) The number of "stock *****" as you like to put it, are even fewer.
3) Nobody is trashing your ideas, but there are unarguably good and bad, right and wrong ways to fix something. I don't think anyone would be happy if they took their car into a dealer for a fix and they slapped something together; rather, if you went to the dealer you'd expect some sort of "proper fix", and the level of repair everyone would expect (yourself included) isn't something that really needs to be spelled out. Just don't take it personally when someone says to replace a dash pad with a dash pad, or repaint the engine bay with paint. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be; I could spray bedliner on my kitchen floor because it's way more durable than wax I have to periodically put on the floor, but I'm not going to.
4) You can leave this website on your own freewill if it sucks so bad. Nobody is forcing you to post here ten years after getting out of thirdgens.
5) Either leave, or quit complaining and just drop it and move on.
6) Perhaps a time-out would be best.
Just chill out and relax a little.

The dealer is hardly a standard I would strive to put my car up to. They used shitty paint that had orange peels and runs, the entire interior is made of cheap vinyl and plastic, etc. etc. on down the line. Dealers aren't in it to build cars to last forever because if nobody had to buy another car they'd be out of a job.

Re: Plastic Dashpad?
No YOU don't get it. Wrenching on cars is not about doing everything a certain way or spending the most money.
Prime example. Back in the 50's and 60's they used to drop cars by cutting the coils. Nowadays we know that if you don't do it properly you destroy the temper and create a sloppy ride, but they drove them like that for 40 years and were quite happy about it. Nowadays someone like YOU would tell them, no, you can't cut coils, it's not the proper way. You have to buy drop coils!
Bullsh*t.
If it wasn't for people trying new things we wouldn't have lowered vehicles, chop tops, sectioned bumpers, sectioned chassis, c-notched frames, tubbed rear ends, or any of the things that are cool about this hobby.
And one more thing mister joined in 2010, don't tell me just how many stock cars there are on this site or how many stock ****'s, or whatever, because I've been around here a hell of a lot longer than you and I know this board a hell of a lot better. Here's a perfect example of the way things are going on this site: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...t-i-found.html
Back when I first joined here you couldn't even post that sh*t because this was a tech only site. Not a post a car and make fun of it site. The word "rice" was a banned word and you couldn't even type it in a message. Things have changed and not for the better.
Now will some moderator do their damn job and lock this thread? The question was answered back on page 1.

As to the rest, because this is a discussion forum, you will see discussions occur and that will often include opinions. It's one thing to provide an opinion that is within the rules, but it's another to go over the top and continue to hammer a personal opinion or ridicule members, or staff, because you don't agree with their opinion or idea. Some don't seem to know where the line is, and when enough is enough.
BTW, some of the attitude being displayed here needs to be ratcheted down.
