Are all bumper supports interchangeable?
I have an aluminum bumper support from a Z28 that appears to be a different shape, particularly the honeycomb, than ones I have seen at the junkyard(I have not taken the bumper cover off my 91 Camaro yet to check the difference). The standard steel one seems to be a simple short curved piece, where as this aluminum one appears bigger and more complicated in shape. Are all year Camaro bumper supports and covers interchangeable?

Come on guys- someone must have an answer to this? What about you guys that have swapped a 91-92 bumper cover onto an earlier model. Fitment issues, different bumper etc?

Re: Are all bumper supports interchangeable?
I bought an aluminum front bumper off an 84 Z28 for my 88 IROC. They are NOT directly interchangeable. It will bolt to the car fine, but it's a different design. The bumper cover won't attach in the same points. You would either need to skip some of the attachment points or fabricate a bracket or two.
Now for the really disappointing part ..... if you are doing this for weight savings, there is very little difference. Due to the redesign, there is less metal in the crash bar on the 85+ style. I decided it was not worth the effort. There is probably a decent weight saving if you compared the 82-84 standard to the aluminum, but it's only a couple pounds with the 85+ style

Re: Are all bumper supports interchangeable?
THANK YOU! I might test fit it anyway. Perhaps I can cut it shorter like the 91-92 and use the later honeycomb on it. I will let you know...

Re: Are all bumper supports interchangeable?
I just finished a 84 iroc clone. The original bumper supports for the sport coupe car I used interchanged without any problems.
