IntelliGlow Needle kits

This is a universal kit that's not avaliable yet. They will run around $65.00. These are so cool! There's even a video at the link to see them in action. The needle kits will be availiable in 3 colors. Sonic Blue (pictured), Hyper Red and Super Green. The kits will be priced per large and small needle. The avereage cluster with 2 large needles and 2 small needles in Sonic Blue will be about $65. Prices are not finalized as of yet. Whatcha think? You have to see the video guys!

It said in one of the parts that it was done just by taking off the needle, scraping the back, and then coloring it with a sharpie. I don't know if our needles light like that though, that might be something that they only do on foreign cars or the newer ones... I really want to go check now though...

Yea, it said:
The IntelliGlow needle kits will require 2 things to work with your vehicle.
1. Your vehicles gauges must have needles made of clear plastic. The needles that you currently have may have a colored paint on the back of them making to give it the look of a solid color needle. (Example: 90-94 Mitsubushi Eclipse)
2. Your vehicle must run on a 12 volt system with a negative chassis.

I just went outside and looked at my gauges in my T/A and they are clear with orange paint on the backside. So I'm sure that all you'd have to do is scrap the paint off.

Those ARE too cool! Unfortunately, I don't think we can make them work on our pre-90 Camaros

What we need is MacEwen or someone to make complete aftermarket factory replacement gauges like that specifically for our thirdgens, with backlit numbers, white faces, transparent orange/blue/green/etc needles (colored so we can see them during the day on the white face), and all!

I've been searching all over the internet to find out more info on these gauges and to answer your question Blue502. You're right about not being able to see to clear needles against the white background during the day. To fix the problem from what I've seen is to just paint the very tips of the needles like this pic. and leave the rest of it clear.

I'm sorry but I hate those gauge overlays.. they just look so trashy to me.. perhaps I'm seeing them in the wrong light or something.. someone please fill me in on why they are so popular.. all I see is a piece of paper cut out with the nnumbers and stuck ontop of the old black one..

Yea I agree that the Guage Overlays above don't look as good as the Macewen Gauge Overlays I've ordered. I haven't gotten them yet but the pictures look really good. As for them looking like paper over black guages, I don't think they do that's why I ordered them.

I have some spare gauges sitting at home that I could try to scrape and repaint and see if it works. Now I really can't wait for school to be over...

I think we can make those work ourselves w/out having to wait for those people to release them. Last time I took my cluster out I remember there was a bulb right in the middle of the gauge and the light from THAT bulb shines trough the needle. Well if we can stick a couple of high powered blue or red LEDs in where the bulb used to be ? Woudlnt the needle turn a very bright blue or red ? I'm gonna try this

Yep, there's another summer project. I've got to give that a try. I really don't think it'll be that difficult. Get rid of my current bulbs and get light to the middle...it's never as easy as I think, though.

those do look really sweet. Luckily I have an extra set of gauges lying around too. I am gonna pull the needles off and see how they look with the stuff scraped off the back. I wonder how good it will look with the macewan gauge overlays? Wouldn't you have to get a different color bulb for it to contrast the white(bluish w/ xenon bulbs) background at night?

Did anyone else read the indigloe gauges post awhile back, like a week or 2 ago, lol. I made a big reply about em with pics and everything, lol. But ya, they do look cool, but our pre-90 Camaro's don't have clear needles, they are just white. I am sure you could get a set of needles form another car that might fit (if you have extra gauges, go try it out) But it would still light up the sides of the needles and still look sweet. I think with white face gauges those will look sweet.

I agree with Blue502 on the aftermarket guage setup.

I have been looking around the past couple of weeks for guages, seeing as how my speedo broke.

Autometer makes a set of guages that you can swap for 99-02 Mustangs or whatever the years are. I would DEFFINITELY like some for the pre-90 Camaros. Seeing as how our guages are backlit. Our needles don't even glow.

Dakota Digital makes a swap for the pre-90 Camaros, but they are digital, not analog guages.

I would REALLY like to have a complete set of autometer guages in my car. Either the Cobalt series or Lunar series. (The cobalt moreso)

i'm just gonna go with the full set of Ultra-Lite's in silver. I'm taking out the faces and guts to the cluster adn then mounting the Auto Meter's to a piece of Carbon Fiber that will replace the Black bezel.

What you guys think about that? Looking for opinions.
(BTW, was going to use Phantoms, but I can't get the 200mph electronic in Phantom.)

Yup. I remembered that before I even opened the post.

Shaun, the kit doesn't work on pre-90 gauges. The kit requires clear needles.

its amazing to see a old post like this come back to life!! there was a question in it tho what wasnt really answered straight in it. from reading the thread, the pre 90 needles are solid, therefore having a bright light behind the needle WOULDN'T make it glow. the 90-92 needles are clear painted on the back. if u look at them (im looking at needles from a 92) the needle goes into the black plastic housing with paint under it. the housing makes like a u shape and the needle is pushed up into it. it makes a "tunel" that the light could shine thru. if u could get a bright light next where the needle connects to the gauge it could work. it would defiently take some work on the cluster housing tho. its just an idea.

to answer some people's questions about whether or not they can get the same effect without buying the kit and simply scraping the needle and replacing the bulb... you might be able to, but i doubt it. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago about these, that there is a small LED ring that you install under the needle itself (w/ a small wire that you have to connect to power) which gives it the glow.
However, if anyone wants to experiment a little bit and prove me wrong, please do so, as I want this kit too but wouldnt mind the same results for cheaper

NO NO NO

Yeah these are great, unforently we have the ugliest crap set of gauges in pre 90 Camaros. Now I like them, but the way they light up sucks. My cutlass gauges were baklit and looked better and it was an older car!

There has to be an after market product out there...

I was wondering, will clear needles from a 91-92 camaro, or bird, or whatever, fit a pre-90 camaro? Then you could install the kit? Or hell, just make your own...

Just somethin to think about

Holy crap, talk about bringing a post back from the dead! This is over three years old since last post!

Anyways, you would think they'd fit. Maybe the lighting stuff is different, but with a little creativity, you could probably pull it off. I've never tried though, so I'm not positive.

there is this junkyard around here, once I get some time, maybe next week, I'll go..you pay a dollar to enter and its HUGE...I'll definetly find some clear needles, maybe even something for the thirdgen! This is a project I will complete. I think it would look killer with reverse indiglo gauges...its always said around these parts "with enough time and money, anything is possible". If I happen to find some that fit I'll let you guys know.

they are clear needles with paint on the back, i stripped the back and painted it silver on the back because the light needs something to reflect off of to work.
