Seat Belt Button Restoration?

I have some really nice Black Seat Belt recievers but the Buttons that release the buckle are PINK! They are supposed to be red. I tryed masking them off and painting them with regular Aerosal Red Paint but it didn't stick the best...
Does anyone have any idea what kind of paint to use on this and if I need to prep it?? Is there any way these belt recievers can be taken apart??

thanks for your help!

I've wondered the same thing. Maybe a red stain would work better. Something that would absorb into the plastic.

Could scuff up the plastic, primer it... and then paint it.

I have the same car, an 89 RS 305 with the same problem. Take to your local chevy dealer and ask them to run your VIN to see if there's an open recall on the front seat belts. there was on mine and what they did was inspect it for the part then give me a call when the parts in and they install it. i don't know how they look as i just recently had them look at my car and i'm still waiting for the part to come in. hope this helps.

yes, there is a recall on the seat belt buttons. They work 100% better and look abour 200% better. just take your car to the dealer and tell them that there is a seat belt button recall on it and they will fix it for free. the number and other info is in the tech article section on this site. it is one of the example questions for the FAQ links.

Later,
Jesse

I called GM and gave them my vin number and they guy said he would check into it and call back in a couple days. Well he called back and said my vin was not covered. So I don't get new belts or recievers :-(
He said throughout the manufacturing year they used different materials at different plants and that is why some are recalled and some are not...
Well I may attempt painting these buttons again....
Does anybody know if 4th Gen Recievers will bolt right in to our currents setup??????

THANKS!

Re: Seat Belt Button Restoration?

you can actually get new buttons from the dealer still. i dont have the part number with me at school, but i think its called seat belt repair kit. it comes with new buttons and springs and they are real easy to put it. the old buttons just need to be pried out. just be careful to not crack the receiver. once the old one is out, you just put the new spring in and the button just snaps right in.

This has been covered on these forums before in detail... Also, I got mine from Modern Day Muscle and they have a paper printout with color instructions on how to do it... It takes not more than 10 minutes if you are really good at it. Pry out the red button, take spring out (again don't crack receiver.. i did that the first time ) and you just seat the new springs in there and then i hope you have good close eye sight cuz at this point you gotta see up close... I haven't done it in quite some time so i forget exact details at this point but it's not hard..
