Advice on installing glass in doors

I took the glass out of the doors to replace the outer sweeps and for painting and restoring. After reading on here afterwards I think there is a way to do it without taking the glass out but nevertheless I have them out and they were a pain in the arose to get out so I'm thinking they are going to be worse putting back in. Any advice or steps that I need to take putting the glass back in wouldbe greatly aappreciated. Especially how to replace the rivets and maybe there are some websites out there that can help. Thanks guys.

You are correct that the glass didn't have to be removed to replace the outer belt moldings. All you had to do was drop the lower glass stop.

Try the 1AAuto YouTube series. They may have a vid. It's been too long since I R&I'd a glass.

OK for everyone that may have to do this, its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. You can use some bolts with locknuts to fasten the window back to the track.thought it would be a nightmare doing it myself but was really easy. Thanks to an old thread on here for some pointers !

Re: Advice on installing glass in doors

You can get the glass out of the doors and back in again with the tracks attached. It's not the easiest thing to do and it does take a while but it's doable. The front corner of the track goes into the back of the door channel and the rest goes from there. I'd say the hardest part is when you get to the roller on the rear of the track, as you almost have to spread the channel wider to get it into the door.

Re: Advice on installing glass in doors

Unless u know the tricks installing the glass and tracks are a PIA!
The rivets snapped in my regulator assembly and i fought and fought trying
to line up the motor/reg/window assembly to put in new rivets to hold it
together.

Finally my body man buddy came over with the giant rivet gun and giant
rivets and with me helping holding the window steady he had it all lined up
and riveted together in a few minutes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't be of any help.............

Re: Advice on installing glass in doors

Harbor Freight used to sell the giant rivet gun but the last time I looked they didn't have it anymore. That said the last I heard is that it wore out after a while, but for $20 or so it was still worth picking up to get the job done.
Used to be able to get the split rivets from GM, but again don't know if they're available either.
IIRC, the info above might be in the window motor install thread, not sure if that's the same one Sidethumper used to get the window back in or not.
