You could easily change the existing speedo to a higher mph by using an ERA from www.atrol.com I bought one for my 87 TransAm because I changed the gears in the rear end from a 2.73 to a 3.73. But you could buy one of these and change the pulse ratio to the speedo so that the speedo will read slow, then you can renumber the speedo with decals yourself, or send it to a guage rstoration/speedo shop (find them on lycos) and they will do it for you.

This programmable speedos feature ''push-button calibration'' that can be easily set while driving. This makes changing gear ratio or tire size easier than ever. The LCD odometer is highly visible and retains the actual mileage after recalibration or in the event 12-volt power is removed, also includes a resettable trip odometer. Will work with late-model transmissions that have an electronic (500 to 400,000 pulse/mile sender) output. Requires sender 105-5291 or 105-5292, if using an early model (cable driven speedo style) transmission.

Re: 140 speedo can i get faster
exactly! prom cuts off fuel at 255 has nothing to do with how much fuel it flows. and hey it may be an unattainable goal but at least i have one.. what r u doing with your time besides trying to type correct english grammer "are you seriously". haha also i am not sure if if any dynos will go that fast but you may not need roads to test the top speed and have it be that fast. the rest of you thanx for the tips on speedos and where to buy them.

Re: 140 speedo can i get faster
if you go 255 you are going to have a camaro that does cart wheels....lol there was a EXTREAMLY rare 160MPH dual pointer that was in 82 cross fire indy 500 pace cars and not all of them had it take a look........... but that original idea of re calbing your speedo and getting a new face plate will work good

Re: 140 speedo can i get faster
cart wheels i think not.. and no you dont need a wind tunnel, like i said a dyno can do it in place i am sure.. anyway i have found some digital ones that go to 300 mph for the camaro and none for trans am but i still havent found any electric ones that go above 200 mph.. also it was a long time before i responded but that is because i came across this post while searching for another one i had listed for parts for sale and thought that one of the users is a complete tool to everyone and he should shut his mouth unless he is being helpful which he hasnt responded here so maybe he got the hint.

Re: 140 speedo can i get faster
I think he means to find out the top speed the car can reach on the road you would need a windtunnel because there would be no wind resistance on a car on a dyno so you may be geared to go that fast but never really be able to hit it on the road.

Re: 140 speedo can i get faster
why would you program the fuel cut at 255 does the car really go that fast and if so why limit it to 255 if it has the power and ability to go that fast why not just disable the fuel cut also what ecm are you using that has fuel cutoff in it

You can get a dakota digital dash or one from Cyberdyne tech. I understand about the fuel being cut off at 255. I don't know how you are planning on over-riding that in the ECM though. You will have other issues long before you ever think about getting a Camaro to over 200 mph though.
----------
You could get a Dakota Digital or Cyberdyne digital dash. You might not ever see over the 200mph though.

I still have my Series 2 Dakota Digital Dash for sale for $200 if anyone is still interested.. I took it out about 3 months ago to install the newest Dakota Dash after I returned back from Afghanistan.
This digital dash works 100% and goes to 255 mph.. I have enclosed another picture of what it look like when installed into the car. It will be shipped in a protective pelican case because of the electronics.
You can contact me directly me directly @
