flat black hoods

Are flat black hood's still ok or are they out now?

Just picked up a RA-I hood for my formula. I've got about a pint left of orange, and a whole gallon of hot rod black. Was thinking of shooting the hood black, mirrors black, and rear wing black. ??

Re: flat black hoods

Maybe the center black, shoot the sides along the line in the orange.

Fancy.. I wonder if I can find any that were painted that way to see what it would look like.

I'll have to bolt it on the car and do that this week. Hood is off right now.

My photoshop skills are about 13 million BC.

Here's Zepher's car before he got it painted:

Anyone care to change the color of the car to Orange (picture attached) and change the hood to flat black??

Re: flat black hoods

Just a flat black hood on an orange car would look fine. Maybe add pinstripping up the cowl on the edges and around the vents to set it off a bit. Whatever you do leave the mirrors and wing alone, I have a parts car now that was red with a black hood, mirrors, and wing. It looked pretty stupid and everyone who has seen the car agrees

Re: flat black hoods

You can't ask us what would look good to you. Personally, I think an all black hood would look about as out of place as that white one does. Basically look like you put a black primer hood on an already painted car. I do like the idea of just the cowl being flat black.

I have not painted the mirrors and wing yet. The mirrors are the fancy padel type from some special year GTA's. Wing is a base firebird wing.

So you'd shoot those both body color? Hrmm.

I have a hard time visualizing things. I just know the only thing not orange on the car so far is the bumperettes and the key locks. I know you're supposed to 'offset'.

Re: flat black hoods

What would look cool is if you painted the orange first and made sure to hit the sides of the raised scoop area. Stick on a set of the RAM AIR decals in the location they would be on the 4th gen WS6 cars then mask the hood at the base line of the scoop. When you shoot the flat black you'll be painting over the decals as well. Once cured, remove the decals and they will be orange in a sea of black.

I can see it - can you?

Is that like an early 80s Caddy in the background?! Who collects those old pimp cars haha! Cool to see one that damn nice.

BTW, I'd paint the rear deck lid black too, like the old MOPARs.

Re: flat black hoods

If you flat black the hood I think about doing the "eye lids" as well. Just a thought.
