Hey guys have a question. How difficult would it be for a body shop to weld a new hard top in place. And removing my T top roof? I’m sick of these T tops. Too many leaks with them.

Not hard for a body shop at all. Whether you want to pay the $$ they will charge is up to you. I have no idea of the cost but it wouldn't be cheap.

It would be a difficult and expensive task involving not only a large expanse of compound-curved sheet metal, but also the pillars and all the glass/mouldings. Definitely no job for a run-of-the-mill body/fender shop.

IMO, unless the car is in otherwise excellent condition (rusted floor pans due to t-tops leaking?) and/or has sentimental value to you, a much more practical solution would be to sell the car and then search for another that better-suits you.

I was just curious, because I seen on one of the GM parts websites they sell one brand new for 600 dollars. But I wasn’t sure of the total cost into doing it. Overall my car is in great shape, no rust or anything. But if finding a hard top car is the way to go. Than that’s what I would have to do. I just didn’t want to spend a fortune either to make it happen. I was just curious that’s all. But if it’s more trouble than it’s worth, I guess I can just deal with the few leaks lol.

The easy solution is to buy a roof. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-1992-C...-/323764939355 for example. $400. Any competent body shop could do this job.

That’s exactly what I was looking at. I just wasn’t sure if a body shop could pull it off or if it would line up.

Contact Midwest Chassis. They make a carbon one piece roof for 4th gens. They could probably make one for 3rds.
