Need some help with the alignment of my Camaro SS fiberglass hood on my 1990 Camaro. The hood came installed in my car when I purchased it a few years back and has never fit well in my opinion. I Also bought new hood hinges for it. I know fiberglass hoods fitment is not perfect but I’d love to get some help, tips or pictures on where the hood just actually sit on the front bumper. I don’t have another 3rd gen to get a look at to compare it.
There ARE hood alignment methods, but honestly, it looks like that hood was prepped and painted without ever being properly "fitted" to the car. On the close up picture you can see how THICK the hood is. It's not supposed to be left that way. It's molded like that for shipping, and the intent is for it to be trimmed. Now some guys don't NEED it trimmed, but honestly it looks like yours does. ...that being said, you can try and adjust it. On the radiator support you have the two rubber hood stops. Obviously those can be raised and lowered, and there are also two bolts on the back of the hinge that act as hinge stops when the hood is closed. You never see it because....well....it's closed! Screw them in a little and the hinge will lower/compress more. These actually make a pretty big difference in how the hood sits. Still....honestly....it's looks like in this case it's the hood itself.
Let us know what you find out.
EDIT....after looking again, the hood does look pretty thick, but still....the TOP of the hood should still be fairly level, and it's clearly a bit higher than the fender line. I'm curious if the hood is resting on those stops or resting on those thick edges!
